Further to yesterday’s Crikey Daily report that the venerable Women’s
Weekly was negotiating to hire a new editor, we can now confirm that
the deed is done and Lisa Green will start work in a few months,
reporting to editor-in-chief Deborah Thomas.
On another front in the magazine industry, rumours are re-surfacing of
some kind of an alliance or joint-venture between the second-biggest
publisher, Pacific Magazines, and Michael Hannan’s rapidly-rising
upstart IPMG (publishers of Vogue, Good Taste, etc).
Hannan tried to buy Pacific from then-owner PMP about three years ago
before Seven Network bought Pacific. But both parties are of the view
that scale is everything in a magazine market that’s so totally
dominated by the Packer ACP colossus.
