“There were two very long meetings of senior people at The Age to discuss how
to turn the paper’s sports section into a tabloid. Andrew Jaspan presented
three options – wrap sport around the existing tabloid sections, put it at the
front of the existing tabloid sections, or put it at the back. Jaspan asked for
a show of hands because he couldn’t decide what to do – the majority favoured
wrapping sport around the existing tabloid sections, and that’s the
recommendation he flew to Sydney with to present to Fairfax CEO Fred Hilmer.”
