Tax reform is the theme and
Professor Ross Garnaut is clearly set to be the star of the “Sustaining
Prosperity” conference held at Melbourne University over the next two
days. He has updated an earlier paper written for the Business Council
of Australia, adding the tagline “cracking our complacency.” His bottom
line is that Australia needs lower rates of personal income tax to
improve incentives and revive a tired economy.
The conference
will also be addressed by the treasurer and the head of treasury, Dr
Ken Henry, and we shall look forward to their response, if any.
