Bullying claims, stories of tensions between senior executives in News and Current Affairs and ABC TV, and an ‘efficiency audit’ from the Federal Government. Kicking the ABC is certainly a sport being played with some vigour at the moment, and not without some reason.
Management appear impervious to what seems to be a number of campaigns by various senior executives. Harassment and bullying claims just won’t go away, suggesting an organisation with a serious cultural problem.
But the big game is the way ABC-TV has been run by Sandra Levy. Some in the ABC say she rules with an iron glove etc, others say that’s tosh. No wonder the managing director Russell Balding has burst into print with an opinion piece in The Australian, defending the national broadcaster’s head of TV and replying to a story in last Saturday’s Weekend Australianby Amanda Meade.
