Three contenders for the throne of Australia have been in Melbourne for
the past few days, and hardly a mention in the media. Crikey has
already pondered the name of our next head of state in the event of a
royal Holocaust – and now we have a glimpse of what might be. Prince
Andrew, the second son of the Australian head of state, was here with
two of his cousins, the former king of Greece and his son prince
Nikolas, all descendants of the Electress Sophia of Hanover. It really
puts the current constitutional arrangement right into perspective – a
lot of people can claim our throne, but not a singe Australian need
apply.
In other mind-bending royal news ,
the government of France has agreed to recognise the long-reigning king
of Wallis, King Lavalua Tomasi Kulimoetoke, who is 87. Crikey’s resident
genealogist is pouring through family trees to ascertain if His Majesty is also in line to our
throne.
