Just when we thought the anti-terror laws
were in the safe hands of the PM, the premiers and, eventually,
Parliament, Wilson Tuckey has entered the fray. This inflammatory media
release from the West, no doubt designed to ease tensions all round,
dropped on our desk this morning:
PREMIERS ACT LIKE WW11 WHARFIES ON TERRORIST LEGISLATION
I completely doubt the altruism of the State Premiers and Chief Ministers in regards their nit picking on the Terrorism Bills.
Australia
could, incur casualty rates from a single terrorist escapade equivalent
to the WWII attack on Darwin” said Wilson Tuckey MP for O’Connor. The
Premiers pursuit of political advantage equates to the despicable acts
of the Australian wharfies during the early years of WWII.They
also forget the Governments detention policies of that era when
individuals resident in Australia with the ethnic origins of our
enemies were interned and required to work in menial tasks throughout
the war period. I don’t remember any State Premier rushing off to the
High Court to contest such actions at that time, nor public protest. The
simple test when a nation is confronted with a threat to its people is
not the Constitution but what is needed to pre-empt a possible attack.WILSON TUCKEY MP
Thanks
Wilson. That ought to settle the horses. As a bonus, send us your
estimate of the number of grammatical errors in the Tuckey media
release. First correct entry to hugo@crikey.com.au wins one of our last
remaining original Crikey T-Shirts.
