It’s an impressive list. 11 months, more than $30 million, 2,065 pages in five volumes, 75 days of public hearings, more than 70 witnesses, 7,500 pages of court transcripts, examination of more than 1,500 internal AWB and government documents and several large forests of media coverage.
And after all that, Terence Cole QC emerged with a report that fingers a dozen AWB and BHP executives.
But here’s an equally impressive list – the ones who weren’t fingered:
The Prime Minister
The Foreign Minister
The Trade Minister
Any other federal minister
Any diplomat
Any public servant
Andrew Lindberg, AWB CEO from 2000 to 2006
Democratic accountability in Australia just keeps trucking along.
