Ian Campbell, Santo Santoro… Joe Hockey? There are persistent rumours round the House that the Minister for Workplace Relations is in trouble.
It could well be wishful thinking from some union bods. It appears as if the ALP has accepted that any slip-ups by Hockey over a family trust were minor.
Yesterday, his opposition counterpart Julia Gillard raised the issue of the trust with the Speaker. Later in the day, however, Gillard’s office said the question asked to clarify the financial disclosure rules for all MPs.
In his last portfolio, however, Hockey was dealing with the potentially very risky, potentially very controversial, potentially very expensive – but equally potentially very lucrative – smart card proposal.
Talk around the corridors is that some outstanding business from all of that could still see Hockey in trouble.
