California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had a word of warning last week for politicians who continued to ignore the threat of climate change:

Your political base will melt away as surely as the polar ice caps… You will become a political penguin on a smaller and smaller ice floe that is drifting out to sea. Goodbye, my little friend. That’s what’s going to happen.

There are more than a few parallels here with our own political penguin, a Prime Minister who, when it comes to global warming, is all tip and no iceberg. The Governor is a conservative politician whose standing was, like our penguin, plummeting in the polls, but he managed to turn his fortunes around with the help of a green tie.

Penguins, don’t worry about the economy and business’ reaction to cutting carbon emissions, says the Governor. Being a politician, and a conservative Hummer-driving one at that, Schwarzenegger says it’s easier for him to convince business bosses to cut carbon dioxide emissions “than if I was someone known for going around talking about ‘I want to protect this tree’ or ‘There’s a fish I want to save.’ They are not so suspicious.”

And Penguins, you have to learn to appeal to all sectors of the community about climate change. Even rev heads. The Governor recently touted a biofuel powered Chevy on MTV’s program Pimp My Ride, “To show people that biofuel is not like some wimpy feminine car, like a hybrid. Because the muscle guys, they have this thing, ‘I don’t want to be seen in the little, feminine car’.”

So for all those penguins out there, here’s a lesson on talking the climate change talk — click on the image below to watch a recent speech delivered by Schwarzenegger at Georgetown University.
