The Labor Party would have easily won an election last weekend, according to the latest Morgan Poll.
The weekend after the ALP National Conference — and business rejection of the party’s industrial relations policy — Labor’s support was down 1% to 51.5%, up 13.9% on the 2004 election result.
Support for the Coalition on the weekend before Peter Costello’s Budget announcements was up 1% to 35.5%, a drop of 10.9% since 2004.
Labor maintained a commanding 60%/40% lead in the two party preferred vote, dropping 1%, while the government’s support increased by the same amount.
Fifty-five per cent of voters — a drop of 0.5% — thought Labor would win the next election, while 33.5% — up 3-5% — thought the government would be returned.
The latest face-to-face Morgan Poll on Federal voting intention was conducted on the weekend of 5/6 May 2007, with an Australia wide cross-section of 1,024 electors.
