State politicians have crashed the Crikey/Media Monitors Tuesday Top 20 for the week of 29 May – 4 June 2007.
The big three – the PM, the Ruddster and Cossie – continue to hog the top three spots, but state pols are the big movers. Morris Iemma’s gone up six spots after the Indonesian diplomatic contretemps in Sydney last week over the Balibo Five.
WA Premier Alan Carpenter jumped 11 places after he decided Kevin Rudd wasn’t out to wreck his state’s economy after all. Peter Beattie is a self-confessed media tart, but he’s been so shameless this week that he’s hit number five on the charts and his deputy, Anna Bligh, has jumped up 26 spots on his coat tails.
The environment continues to be the big issue federally. Malcolm Turnbull rode up two spots on the back of a whale, Peter Garrett jumped five slots, while Labor’s attack on the “climate clever” advertising campaign that may or may not exist, depending on how shifty the PM is at any given time, saw Anthony Albanese climb 11 positions.

Kevin Rudd remains at the top of the talkback chart, but that isn’t good news. While he’s Number 1, the majority of the mentions were critical.

There’s more on the week’s issues at Media Monitors Media Index.
And as our comparison with the rest of the world, we’re using little Lleyton Hewitt. We think he’s apt – a former champ who’s suddenly the subject of speculation over his future.
