Last night’s TV ratings
The Winners: Ramsay’s UK Nightmares was tops with 1.542 million, Seven News was next with 1.402 million and Today Tonight was 3rd with 1.369 million. Home And Away was 4th with 1.220 million, followed by The Biggest Loser for an hour from 7pm on Ten with 1.146 million. Seven’s How I Met Your Mother edged up to 1.144 million at 8pm for Seven with the 7pm ABC News next with 1.091 million in 7th spot. Then came Nine’s Getaway with 1.088 million and Nine News with 1.081 million. The Footy Shows averaged 1.081 million and A Current Affair was 11th with 1.021 million. Ten’s Law And Order SVU was on 959,000, Nine’s Two And A Half Men at 7pm, 956,000, Ten’s repeat of Jamie At Home at 8pm, 941,000 and Seven’s Samantha Who? at 7.30pm, 907,000.

The Losers: Ghost Whisperer on Seven at 8.30pm, 854.000. Ten’s medium at 9.30pm, 651,000.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market. Today Tonight won nationally and everywhere. The 7pm ABC News was again ahead of Nine News in the rankings nationally and in Sydney (310,000 to 291,000). Ten News At Five averaged 849,000, the Late News/Sports Tonight, 360,000. The 7.30 Report, 900,000 (and just 6,000 short of ACA in Sydney, 271,000 to 277,000). Lateline 343,000, the discussion after the Oasis special (which averaged 788,000) 650,000. Lateline Business, 182,000. World News Australia on SBS at 6.30pm, 168,000, the late at 9.30pm, 166,000. 7am Sunrise, 379,000, 7am Today, 304,000.

The Stats: Nine won 6pm to midnight with a share of 31.0% (31.9% a week earlier) from Seven with 25.9% (26.6%), Ten with 20.8% (20.1%), the ABC with 17.8% (16.1%) and SBS with 4.5% (5.2%). Nine won Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Seven won Brisbane and Perth. The NRL Footy Show only averaged 109,000 in Brisbane. That’s why Seven managed to scrape home. That was Number 24 in the rankings in peak time last night in Brisbane. Seven now leads the week, 28.3% to 26.6% for Nine. In regional areas a win for WIN/NBN for Nine with 30.0% from Prime/7Qld with 25.6%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 22.5%, the ABC with 17.1% and SBS with 4.7%. Fusion Strategy says Nine also won 6pm to 10.30pm with 25.26% (25.27% a year ago on the same night). Seven was next with 22.45% (23.75%), Ten was third with 18.35% (19.72%), then the ABC with 15.64% (12.16%), Pay TV with 14.35% (14.63% and SBS with 3.95% (4.48%).

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven’s Today Tonight joined The Daily Telegraph in being ignorant about the Reserve Bank and the RBA governor. The talent wasn’t distinguished, the reporter, old Sluggo Richardson, the bloke who concocted Chris Skase chased me all those years ago and kept his job. That says more about the lightweight nature of the story. The Oasis special on the ABC on homeless kids was powerful, but then so was the doco, Nobody’s Children. The story stays the same, only the kids change. It was sad. It made the antics on the NRL Footy Show look puerile. Heaven help what happened on The AFL Footy Show last night with that clown Sam Newman back and insulting the likes of Caroline Wilson of The Age. It’s interesting how Jeff Browne, GTV 9 manager haven’t seem to have pulled Newman into line. There’s the various football codes over the weekend, a movie on Nine tomorrow night, Brit night on Seven and AFL on Ten. But Seven will win the week, they are too far ahead for Nine to catch. And the reason will be the trio of flops at 7.30pm Monday through Wednesday. All their own effort. Nine has fixed Monday night with the Dickie Attenborough series, but Tuesday and Wednesday will have to be righted soon.
