Gordon GekkoThe global economic downturn has inspired a belated sequel to Oliver Stone’s 1987 corporate thriller Wall Street, which featured Michael Douglas in an Oscar-winning performance as ruthless stockbroker shark Gordon Gekko, deliverer of memorable quips such as “lunch is for wimps” and “greed is right, greed works.” Wall Street 2, as it is tentatively titled, will reunite the director and star. Stone is not known for subtlety or a reluctance to take on topical issues, so expect him to make an angry appraisal of the current financial climate – something along the lines of Big Corporations Are Evil. Given today’s dire worldwide economy, perhaps it’s also time to remake the Richard Pryor/John Candy 1985 comedy Brewster’s Millions. Can anybody think of a better title?
