The Winners: Seven News won with 1.719 million people, from Nine News in second with 1.610 million. Dancing With The Stars was 3rd with 1.473 million for the two hours from 6.30pm. That helped Seven’s fresh episode of Bones to win the 8.30pm to 9.30pm slot with 1.434 million people. 60 Minutes was 5th with 1.328 million, above its 2009 average thanks to the paid for interview with the survivor of a recent Sydney mass murder. Nine’s Domestic Blitz averaged 1.307 million at 6.30pm and its Rescue Special Ops averaged 1.233 million at 8.30pm. Audition two of Australian Idol was 8th with 1.171 million. Rove averaged 1.053 million from around 8.40pm, Stephen Fry in America averaged 1.032 million and Seven’s 9.30pm repeat of Bones averaged 1.032 million.

The Losers: Las Vegas on Seven at 10.30pm, 470,000 . Ten’s movie, Something About Mary, from around 9.50pm; 471,000. Nothing else.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Melbourne. The 7pm ABC News averaged 784,000. Ten News averaged 598,000. SBS News at 6.30pm averaged 230,000. In the morning Weekend Sunrise, 421,000, Today on Sunday, 322,000, Landline on the ABC at Noon, 259,000. Insiders at 9am on the ABC, 218,000. Inside Business at 10am, 137,000, Offsiders, 129,000. Meet The Press on Ten, 33,000.

The Stats: Seven won 6pm to midnight All People with 30.2% (25.5%) from Nine with 28.0% (24.9%), Ten with 23.2% (24.5%), the ABC with 13.9% (12.9%) and SBS on 4.6% (12.3%). Seven won Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Nine won Melbourne. In regional areas Prime/7Qld won with 31.5% from WIN/NBN with 27.0%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 22.3%, the ABC with 13.1% and SBS with 6.1%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven won last week, Nine was closer in second, than it has been for some weeks, Ten was third. Nine had more viewers than Seven in 25 to 54s, Seven won All People, Ten won 16 to 39s. Seven won last night from Nine. Ten lingered in third place and apart from Tuesdays, the weekly rating battle will be a bit tough for Ten until Australian Idol peaks and then the celebrity version of MasterChef starts. Production on that starts early September.

Seven pre-empted the return of Medical Emergency at 8pm last night. That happened Friday and was no doubt linked to the 60 Minutes interview last night with the surviving daughter from a gruesome Sydney mass murder last month. 60 Minutes averaged 1.328 million, but Dancing With The Stars continued to 8.30pm instead of finishing at 8pm. Ten won 18 to 49 and 16 to 39 thanks to Rove and Australian Idol.

TONIGHT: Four Corners and Ashes To Ashes on the ABC; Australian Story will be worth a look as well. Nine has Farmer Wants A Wife (which has the feel of Ten’s The Biggert Loser about it). Drop Dead Diva at 9.30pm is worth a look.

Seven’s highlight is City Homicide at 8.30pm (and is close to the best for the night). Beyond The Darklands at 9.30pm on Seven returns with a look at jailed Sydney criminal, Arthur “Neddy” Smith, a man who single handedly put Melbourne’s Underbelly gang in the shade. Ten’s highlight could very well be The 7pm Project. Good News Week at 8.30pm will get more viewers, bit its ageing fast. Are You Smarter Than A 5th grader at 7.30pm is fading fast as well for Ten. Rove can’t help this one anymore. Dexter at 9.40pm isn’t worth it. SBS has Top Gear at 7.30pm, but Flight of the Conchords at 9pm. Why can’t they do a motoring program, it would be brilliant viewing.
