Volume is back to pre-Grech times at three to one Kevin Rudd to Malcolm Turnbull, one possible indicator that if the Opposition’s main aim in the asylum seeker debate is to get the focus away from their own problems, it seems to be working.
In lieu of a current direct attack against Turnbull, the PM picked the easiest of targets in the Member for O’Connor, who seemed strangely happy to oblige, despite his wafer-thin 17% majority.
Most of the other movers upwards were related to the asylum seeker issue, with the Senate Independents picking up coverage on the Telstra separation issue, along with a suddenly sheepish-looking minister, while Anthony Albanese scores a heap of coverage in the back pages for his “veto” of John Howard as NRL boss.
You can hear the AM execs whooping it up all the way up and down the land, the golden days are back! For how long? We shall see.
