Copenhagen returns Kevin to his popularity throne

KevinPM finally back to the top as the Copenhagen summit starts looking more like a two week condensation of the climate change debate over the last 12 months in Australia. Self-interest is why we’re at the top of the food chain after all, and also why we won’t stay there.

Penny Wong up six places to fourth, with the two newbies, for whom the only way is up according to first polls, sit in second and third. We have noticed Kristina Keneally’s accent at least 50% less American just over the past two weeks – so we are expecting her to sound like Julia Gillard by February.

Greg Hunt is back in the game, announcing straight away that they never said they would never have a price on carbon – even though its a great big huge whopping tax, of course. Meanwhile Barnaby is busy nationalising the banks and saving us from the country that’s been propping up our “miracle” economy for the past ten years. It’s going to be a fascinating balancing act for Tony Abbott to manage that range of economic opinion while keeping his own social views tucked away – and he is a true miracle worker if he can pull it off.

Climate change has remained a big issue on talkback throughout the year and its what gets Kevin Rudd back to number one on this list as well.

Some desperately needed controversy for the middle-aged soap? Or perhaps that’s just my desperately middle-aged cynicism.
