The Winners: Seven News was tops with 1.134 million viewers (and the second loss in Sydney this week). Nine News was second, just behind with 1.129 million people. Today Tonight was third with 1.116 million and A Current Affair was 4th with 1.024 million. Seven’s tennis coverage from 7pm averaged 1.004 million people. Nothing else mattered after 7pm apart from Seven’s tennis (in terms of interesting viewers.). No wonder the six free to air digital channels had a solid night with an 11% share.

The Losers: Same old tune: For non-tennis lovers, it was a rotten night.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and Nine News almost dead heated. Nine won in Sydney and Melbourne. A Current Affair won Melbourne and Brisbane, but was let down by Perth and Adelaide. Ten News averaged 789,000, the late News/Sports Tonight averaged 170,000. The 7pm ABC News, 892,000, The 7.30 Report‘s summer edition, 626,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 198,000, 115,000 for the late edition. 7am Sunrise, 350,000, 7am Today, 250,000.

The Stats: Seven won the all people 6pm to midnight battle with the other Free To Air networks, and with Pay TV included.

In the FTA battle Seven had a combined overnight share of 34.0% with Nine on 29.4%, Ten on 16.6%, the ABC on 14.3% and SBS on 5.6%. Seven won everywhere bar Perth where Nine got home. Seven leads the week with a combined overnight share of 31.5% from Nine with 28.1%. Excluding the digital networks, Seven’s main channel leads with a share of 28.3% to 24.8% for Nine.

With Pay TV included, Seven had a combined share of 27.1%, from Nine with a total share of 23.5%, Pay TV with 17.7%, Ten with 13.3%, the ABC with 11.4% and SBS with 4.5%. Free To Air networks with 11 channels averaged 82.3% of the audience from 6 pm to midnight in all people in the five metro markets. Pay TV with 83 measured and more than 20 grouped channels, averaged 17.7%.

In regional areas Prime/7Qld won with a combined share of 32.8%, from WIN/NBN with a share of 30.8%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 15.8%, the ABC with 14.6% and SBS with 6.1%.

Digitally: A stronger night for Nine’s GO with a share of 4.4% (Nine’s main channel was on 25.0%). 7TWO was on 2.4%, leaving Seven’s main channel on 31.6%. ABC2 tied for second with 2.4% (With ABC3 on 0.5% and ABC1 on 11.4%). Ten’s ONE averaged 0.8% (Ten’s main channel was on 15.8%). SBS TWO was on 0.5%, SBS ONE was on 5.1%. Go and 7TWO share the week’s lead with a share of 3.2%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nothing to be said about TV last night except Bernard Tomic is a battler and Justine Henin is a bore. Rex in Rome averaged 238,000 on SBS at 7.30pm.

TONIGHT: More tennis in Seven. Repeats galore on Nine and Ten. The ABC has two programs on modern music at 8.30pm and 10.30pm (Seven Ages of Rock and British Invasion).
