The Winners: Seven’s tennis coverage from 7.30 pm averaged 1.236 million and topped the ratings last night. Seven News was second with 1.216 million and A Current Affair was 3rd with 1.184 million, in front of Today Tonight with 1.122 million. Nine News was next with 1.094 million viewers and Home And Away was 6th with 1.004 million.

The Losers: Only those who didn’t like tennis.

News & CA: Seven News lost Sydney, won Melbourne narrowly and won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Today Tonight lost nationally to ACA by losing Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Wins in Adelaide and Perth were not enough. The 7pm ABC News averaged 995,000. The summer edition of The 7.30 Report averaged 703,000. Ten News, 795,000, the late News/Sports Tonight, 226,000. 6.30pm SBS News, 181,000, the late edition, 124,000. 7am Sunrise, 318,000, 7 am Today, 290,000.

The Stats: In the Free To Air battle, Seven won with a combined overnight 6pm to midnight All People share of 35.6%, from Nine with 28.6%, Ten with 16.3%, the ABC with 14.3% and SBS with 5.2%. Seven won all five metro markets and leads the week with a combined overnight share of 35.9% from Nine with 27.9%.

In the battle with Pay TV. Seven had combined overnight 6pm to midnight All People share of 28.3%, from Nine with 22.8%, Pay TV with 17.7%, Ten with 13.0%, the ABC with 11.4% and SBS with 4.1%. FTA’s 11 channels had a combined overnight share of 82.3%, Pay TV, 17.7%.

Regionally, Prime/7Qld with 33.0% won the night with WIN/NBN on 29.2%, Southern Cross (Ten) with 17.7%, the ABC on 13.8% and SBS with 6.3%.

Digitally: Nine’s GO won with 3.3% (Nine’s main channel was on 25.4%), 7TWO was on 2.9%, the main channel was on 32.7%, ABC2 was on 1.6% (ABC3, 0.6%, ABC1, 12.1%). Ten’s ONE was on 1.4% (Ten’s main channel, 15.0%), SBS TWO, 0.4%, SBS ONE, 4.8%. Nine’s GO leads the week, 3.4%, 7TWO with 3.2%. In the main channel battle, Seven with 32.7% leads Nine with 24.5%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven won. The tennis has grabbed the attention of Australian viewers now that we are at the pointy end of the titles. Nothing else mattered last night.

TONIGHT: Tennis: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Roger Federer, the winner to play Andy Murray on Sunday night. Nine has One Day International cricket from Perth. Ten and the ABC, plus SBS, are broadcasting to provide the desperate with some alternatives.

TOMORROW NIGHT: Tennis: Serena Williams vs Justine Henin on Seven from centre court. Taggart on the ABC, Rockwiz and Iron Chef on SBS.

SUNDAY NIGHT: The Men’s final on Seven, Andy Murray vs. ? The final ODI against Pakistan from Perth on Nine and Ten pitches its starting line up for ratings with the 2010 season of The Biggest Loser (6.30pm), So You Think You Can Dance Australia (7.30 pm) kicking off, followed by a movie length House from 9 pm.
