The Winners: Masterchef was tops with 1.693 million viewers on Ten from 7.30pm, Seven News was next with 1.632 million viewers and the 7.30pm ep of Two And A Half Men averaged 1.536 million for Nine. Nine News was fourth with 1.503 million and Today Tonight was fifth with 1.491 million. A Current Affair was sixth with 1.377 million and Nine’s 7 pm repeat of Two And A Half Men was 7th with 1.311 million people. The Big Bang Theory was next with 1.264 million for Nine at 8pm and The Mentalist averaged 1.210 million at 8.30pm for Nine. Ten News averaged 1.161 million and Home And Away was 11th with 1.098 million. Desperate Housewives averaged 1.068 million for Seven at 8.30pm and the 7pm ABC News averaged 1.009 million. Seven’s 8pm program Find My Family averaged 955,000 and the 7.30pm lead in, The Zoo, averaged 952,000. Good News Week after Masterchef on Ten averaged 888,000 which is nearly half the audience of its lead in, a big loss. Australian Story averaged 839,000 on the ABC at 8pm.

The Losers: Nothing really. Being a holiday Monday night there was a solid selection for viewers to choose from.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but Sydney (Nine News beat Seven in Sydney last week Monday to Friday). ACA beat TT in Sydney and Melbourne, but lost nationally as TT won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The 7.30 Report averaged 684,000, Four Corners, 684,000, Media Watch, 597,000 and Q&A a high 600,000 with a non-political discussion of the Anzacs. A message there for the producers with the audience close to being the highest so far for the program. Lateline averaged 273,000; Ten’s Late News averaged 216,000. Nine’s Nightline, 189,000; the 6.30pm SBS News on SBS, 213,000; 218,000 for the late edition. Sunrise from 7am had 428,000 compared to Today‘s 288,000. Sunrise had that teenie star Justin Beiber, which caused a kerfuffle on a quiet holiday Monday in Sydney.

The Stats:

FTA: Nine won with a share of 28.7% from Seven with 28.0%, Ten on 22.0%, the ABC with 15.0% and SBS with 6.2%. Nine won Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven won Adelaide and Perth. Ten won all the demos: 16 to 39, 18 to 49, 25 to 54s; Nine won All People; Seven was squeezed. Nine leads the week 31.3% from Seven with 28.4%.

Main Channel: Nine won this with a share of 26.1%, from Seven with 23.8%, Ten with 21.1%, ABC 1 with 13.3% and SBS ONE with 6.0%. Nine won Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Seven won Adelaide. Nine leads the week with 27.3%, from Seven with 25.0%.

Digital: 7TWO won with a share of 4.2% from GO with 2.7%, ABC2 with 1.3%, ONE with 0.9%, ABC3 on 0.4% and SBS TWO on 0.3%. That’s a total share for the six FTA digital channels of 9.8%. GO leads the week on 4.0% from Seven with 3.4%.

Pay TV: Nine won with 23.9%, from Seven with 23.3%, Ten on 18.3%, Pay TV with 14.9%, the ABC with 12.5% and SBS with 5.2%. The 11 FTA channels had a share of 85.1%, the 100 plus Pay TV channels shared in the 14.9% reported.

Regional: A win to WIN/NBN with 31.0%, from Prime/7Qld with 25.5%, SC Ten with 19.4%, the ABC 17.0% and SBS, 7.1%. The main channels were won by WIN/NBN with 29.0%, from Prime/7Qld with 22.7%. 7TWO won the digitals with a share of 2.7%, from GO with 2.1% and ABC 2 with 1.7%. WIN/NBN leads the week.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Well, Nine won last week in All People, Ten won the demos thanks to the first week of Masterchef, the ending of The Biggest Loser and Dance Australia. Nine won Sunday night (Underbelly was cut to 1.5 million viewers by Masterchef, 1.2 million). It was a holiday Monday night last night, so audiences were high — best example was the 1.16 million people tuned into the Ten Network at 5pm after the AFL game of the day and high figures for Seven and Nine News. This will again be a factor in June on the holiday Monday after the Queen’s Birthday weekend (but not in WA). Over the weekend, more of the same, a desert on Saturday night.

Masterchef was back on top last night. The 7PM Project averaged 929,000 and had far more viewers thanks to Masterchef following it than it would have normally had. It was, however, a solid program and is gaining more exposure to viewers.

TONIGHT: Masterchef on Ten for half an hour, then Bondi Rescue and NCIS, Top Gear on Nine. Australia’s Got Talent on Seven, a new Rick Stein food series on the ABC after Foreign Correspondent. SBS has Insight, which looks at the possible negative effects of having a personal trainer.
