The Winners: MasterChef was top with 1.836 million people, Seven News was next with 1.546 million and Today Tonight was 3rd with 1.532 million. Modern Family was 4th with 1.524 million and maintaining the very high audience since it started. Grey’s Anatomy lifted to average 1.362 million for Seven from 8.30pm. Nine News was 6th with 1.334 million and the repeat of NCIS on Ten at 8.30pm was next with 1.302 million. A Current Affair was 8th with 1.272 million and Seven’s new game show at 7.30pm, Minute to Win It, averaged 1.130 million. It beat Top Gear on Nine at 7.30pm with 1.121 million viewers. The 7pm repeat of Two and a Half Men averaged 1.114 million and Home and Away averaged 1.103 million. The 7pm ABC News averaged 1.062 million and was the 13th and last program with a million or more viewers on a solid night of viewing.

The Losers: Nine got squeezed and rightfully so with yet another repeat of an SBS screened episode of Top Gear. The race to Tokyo in the red car and train was too memorable to be forgotten easily. Minute to Win It on Seven at 7.30pm, 1.1 million, barely there, and will fall in coming weeks. It’s just weak.

News & CA: Seven News again won nationally and in every market but lost Sydney to Nine. Today Tonight beat ACA everywhere. ACA again was surprisingly weak in Sydney, falling to 346,000 after Nine News won with 405,000 (and beat Seven by 35,000). Was it TT’s Scientology scoop? The 7.30 Report averaged 796,000. Foreign Correspondent a high 731,000, Lateline, 244,000, Lateline Business, 138,000. Ten News averaged 924,000, the late News/Sports Tonight, 355,000. SBS News at 6.30pm, 189.000. 7am Sunrise, 391,000, 7am Today, 301,000.

The Stats:

FTA: Seven won everywhere. It finished with a share of 30.8%, from Ten with 24.2%. Nine was squeezed to third with 22.6%, the ABC was on 16.3% and SBS, 6.1%. Seven won all five metro markets and now leads the week with 26.9%, from Nine on 26.1% and Ten on 23.6%. Seven also won 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s, despite MasterChef winning All People and the same demos.

Main Channel: Seven won here as well with a share of 28.4%, from Ten on 23.7% and Nine with 21.1%. ABC 1 was on 14.4% and SBS One, 5.0%. Seven won everywhere and leads the week with a share of 24.6%, from Nine on 23.4% and Ten on 22.7%.

Digital: 7TWO won with a share of 2.4%, with GO and ABC 2 on 1.5% each, SBS TWO on 1.0%, and ONE and ABC 3 on 0.5% each. That’s a total share of 7.4% for the six FTA digital channels. GO still leads the week with a share of 2.7% from 7TWO with 2.4%.

Pay TV: Seven won with a share of 16.1%, from Ten on 20.5%, Nine was on 19.2%, the ABC, 13.9%, Pay TV, 13.0% and SBS, 5.1%. The 11 FTA channels had a total share of 87.0%, Pay TV’s 100-plus channels shared in the reported 13.0% share.

Regional: A win to Prime/7Qld with a share of 29.3%, from WIN/NBN with 25.6%, SC Ten on 25.0%, the ABC with 14.7% and SBS with 5.3%. The main channels were won by Prime/7Qld with 28.0%, from SC Ten with 24.2%, and Prime/7Qld with 23.8%. GO won the digitals with a share of 1.9%, from 7TWO with 1.3%, ABC 2 on 1.1% and SBS TWO, 1.0%. WIN/NBN leads the week with a share of 29.0% from Prime/7Qld with 26.4%.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven and Ten won the night, with MasterChef again doing it for Ten from London for half an hour. The repeat of NCIS did well for Ten and Modern Family was again very good . Grey’s Anatomy showed life with 1.3 million — a season ending crisis always gets them in.

Today Tonight had a real genuine scoop on scientology last night and its tax lurks between Australia and the UK. Public interest current affairs at its best. More of that please and less of the underwear that shapes male and female bodies, which was another segment on TT last night.

TONIGHT: Hey Hey it’s Saturday is on tonight at 7.30pm on Nine for those still interested on what life was like in the 1980’s on Australian TV.

The ABC has Spicks and Specks and at last a decent audience for The Gruen Transfer. Ten of course has MasterChef for 90 minutes and SBS has the World Cup, Australia vs. Serbia at 4.20am tomorrow. Seven has a patchwork of programs from 7.30pm, repeats of Border Security, the dog special of The Force, and then its downhill from then.
