Glenn Dyer’s comments: A win to Nine last week in the overall, main channels and the digitals, but Ten won the main demos, thanks to those three 2 million-plus audiences for MasterChef and the solid goodbye for Glee on Thursday night. WIN/NBN won last week in regional Australia. Nine got home in the regions and in metro markets because of the third State of Origin result last Wednesday boosted its margin by enough to give it a comfortable win. Seven’s weak Thursday evening (and Saturday for that matter), also helped Nine.

The first half of 2010 ratings finished last Saturday night. According to Seven and Nine they lead, according to Ten they are doing well and have won the 16 to 39 and 18 to 49 demos. It all depends if you add in the digital channels to the main channels, and then the seven-day record and replay programs. When MasterChef finishes later this month, the TV ratings picture will change again. Seven has Packed To The Rafters running Tuesday nights and pulling in 1.8 million viewers or so. Nine and Ten will not have any program that rates as highly in the back half of the year.

LAST NIGHT: Nothing really. It was MasterChef and Dancing With The Stars. End of night.

TONIGHT: The ABC has back-to-back news and current affairs programs, from the 7pm News to Lateline Business close to midnight. Four Corners is the second of a two-parter by Chris Masters on Afghanistan. Seven wraps up Desperate Housewives with a two-hour finale. Ten has MasterChef. Nine has Rescue Special Ops. MythBusters returns on SBS at 7.30pm. It’s a rest day in that bike race. The World Cup departed this morning, so now just the Tour de France to stay up late for.
