The Winners: Seven’s night. Nine will be disappointed with the loss of 200,000 plus viewers for the second Underbelly telemovie, Underbelly Files: Infiltration. The first one last week had 1.373 million viewers (519,000 viewers in Melbourne and 377,000 in Sydney). Last night it had 392,000 in Melbourne and 303,000 in Sydney. Nine has a real problem with the next long form series in production. Viewers have gone right off it. Underbelly Files: Infiltration did well in the demos, what Nine wanted to see, but the fall on last week is the concern.

The Losers: Nine last night. Should have really done better, as it should have done on Sunday night. Ten also had a flat night. NCIS at 8.30pm, a fresh episode, 699,000 at 8.30pm.

News & CA: Nine News lost Sydney to Seven, but won Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven won the rest. ACA won Melbourne, TT won the rest. A Current Affair had its 5th night in a row under a million viewers. Not very good at all. And Seven won Melbourne on Sunday, not lost it to Nine.

  • FTA: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 31.7% from Nine on 29.3%, Ten on 19.2%, the ABC on 15.1% and SBS with 4.6%. Seven leads the week with 31.8% from Nine on 28.1% and Ten with 19.9%.
  • Main Channel: Seven won the main channels narrowly with 23.7% from Nine on 23.5%, Ten with 15.2%, ABC 1 on 12.5% and SBS One with 3.7%. Seven leads the week with 23.7% from Nine on 21.3% and Ten on 16.3%.
  • Digital: 7TWO won with a share of 5.0% from Eleven on 3.8%, 7Mate and GO on 3.0% each, Gem on 2.8%, ABC 2 on 1.5%, SBS TWO on 0.9%, ABC 3 on 0.6% and News 24 and ONE on 0.5% each. The 10 digital channels had an FTA share of 21.3% in prime time last night. 7TWO leads the week on 4.3% from GO on 4.1% and 7Mate on 3.8%.
  • Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 26.6% from Nine (3) on 24.6%, Ten (3) on 16.1%, Pay TV (100 plus channels), on 13.3%, the ABC (4), on 12.7%, SBS (2), 3.9%. The 15 FTA channels had an 86.7% share of prime time TV viewing last night, made up of 17.8% for the 10 digital channels and 68.9% for the five main channels.
  • Regional: Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with 31.6% from WIN/NBN (3) on 31.5%, SC Ten (3), 17.5%, the ABC (4), 14.9% and SBS and SBS on 4.7% (2 channels). WIN/NBN won the main channels with 25.7% from Prime/7Qld on 24.0%. 7TWO won the digitals with 4.4%, from GO on 3.7% and Eleven on 3.5%. Prime/7Qld lead the week with 32.1% from WIN/NBN on 30.0%.

Major Markets: Seven overall and the main channels in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Nine won Melbourne and Brisbane. 7TWO won Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. GO won Brisbane. 7Mate, Eleven and Gem shared the minors. Seven leads the week from Nine and Ten in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Nine leads Melbourne.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: A night closer than it seemed. But Nine faded with Underbelly Files: Infiltration losing its audience on last week, but doing enough to win Melbourne. Apart from that, a fairly average night of TV given that Seven’s 6pm news topped the ratings.

TONIGHT: Packed to the Rafters on Seven, Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, NCIS on Ten. Top Gear on Nine. Ignore the Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth disaster at 9.30pm (or watch with morbid fascination). Foreign Correspondent at 8pm on Egypt. Life at 5 on the ABC at 8.30pm.

Ten repeats 6PM With George Negus at 10.40pm tonight to try and make it more available to viewers.
