The Winners: Seven’s night with the top four programs, especially two after 7pm. What is interesting is how Home and Away is doing solid million-plus figures most nights at 7pm while Ten’s The 7pm Project and Nine’s repeats of Two and a Half Men have all lost ground.
A year ago, Home and Away was struggling, finishing third some nights behind Nine and Ten, and occasionally 4th behind the 7pm ABC News. For the moment that has changed and Ten and Nine have been left flatfooted.
- Packed to the Rafters (Seven) (8.30pm) — 1.815 million
- My Kitchen Rules (Seven) (7.30pm) — 1.432 million
- Seven News (6pm)– 1.186 million
- Today Tonight (Seven) (6.30pm) — 1.155 million
- NCIS (Ten) (8.30pm) — 1.136 million
- Home and Away (Seven) (7pm) — 1.073 million
- Nine News (6pm)– 1.043 million
The Losers: Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth, Top Gear, Two and a Half Men at 7pm, all on Nine.
News & CA: Nine News won Sydney and Brisbane. In Sydney, Today Tonight (263,000) lost audience from Seven News (289,000), which was beaten by Nine News at 290,000. ACA in Sydney averaged 291,000. Nine News also won Brisbane, but ACA slumped. ACA had yet another night under the million viewer mark.
Nine says ACA is doing well on the east coast (it’s all relative). But it is not so solid in Perth and Adelaide (which are owned by WIN). Nine is also not doing well overall in both of these markets this year. And on Monday night Q&A at 9.35pm was watched by 490,000. That was left out of yesterday’s figures.

- Digital: GO won with a share of 3.8%, from 7TWO on 3.6%, Eleven on 3.1%, Gem on 2.7%, 7Mate was on 2.6%, ABC 2, 1.6%, ONE and SBS TWO, 1.2% each; ABC 3, 0.7% and News 24, 0.5%. That’s a total share of 21.0% for the 10 FTA channels in prime time last night. GO and 7TWO lead the week with 4.0% each, from 7Mate on 3.4% and Eleven on 3.0%.
- Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 28.7%, from Nine (3) on 20.3%, Ten (3) on 18.6%, Pay TV (100 plus channels) with 14.0%; the ABC (4), 11.1% and SBS (2) on 4.2%. Major Markets: Seven won overall and the main channels everywhere. Nine was second in Sydney and Melbourne and overall in Brisbane and Adelaide. But Ten was second in the main channels in Brisbane and in Adelaide. In Perth Nine fell to third and was overtaken clearly by Ten, both overall and the main channels. GO won Sydney 7TWO won Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Eleven won Melbourne. Seven leads everywhere with Nine second, bar Perth where Ten is now in second and Nine third.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Packed to the Rafters was a bit off. A bit predictable. Foreign Correspondent did a great job on Egypt, as did Dateline on Sunday night on SBS.
Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth is on death’s door: 384,000 last night at 9.30pm, after 455,000 for the debut. It’s actually goodbye Ben from Channel Nine. Nine had him down for four episodes.
Nine’s start of year promotion line was “The home of laughter.” It is in fact hard to see anything but the funny side of the network’s ratings 10 days into official full-blown ratings.
TONIGHT: It’s round two of Laid tonight on the ABC at 9.30pm, after the second round of Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight at 8.30pm.
Over on Seven, My Kitchen Rules continues, with Criminal Minds to remind us of American police procedural reality. Ten has The Biggest Loser filling our screens. Nine has Mike & Molly and The Farmer Wants a Wife. SBS has Rex in Rome again.
Blue Bloods and House on Ten will sag and City Homicide on Seven will only look good in Melbourne.
