The Winners: Packed to the Rafters and My Kitchen Rules simply dominated the night for Seven. They also showed how good, attractive programs after 7pm can get big audiences and hold them and win the night for whatever network is broadcasting them. Viewers definitely want this sort of programming, but they only seem to get it on one or two nights a week.
- Packed to the Rafters (Seven) (8.30pm) — 1.795 million
- My Kitchen Rules (Seven) (7.30pm) — 1.625 million

- Nine News 6pm) — 1.196 million
- NCIS (Ten) (8.30pm) — 1.1069 million
- Today Tonight (7pm) — 1.031 million
The Losers: Hard to say, the coverage of the New Zealand quake disrupted schedules last night. Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth was pushed back an hour on Nine and was still rotten
News & CA: Nine News won Sydney by 2000 viewers, 327,000 to 325,000. Seven News won the rest. TT and ACA weren’t head to head. ACA was easily beaten by the second half of the hour long Seven News. TT won the 7pm slot. Nine pre-empted Two and a Half Men and showed a quake special at 7pm. It averaged 700,000. TT and the 7pm ABC News beat it.
Ten went live yesterday afternoon, taking TV3 pictures, had a late special last night and was going live from Sydney this morning until 10am. It’s getting more serious. Ten has to change viewer perceptions about its commitment to news, hence the live coverage.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Packed to the Rafters and My Kitchen Rules blew away to opposition and gave Seven an easy win. Nine devoted time and effort to specials on the NZ quake, Ten had a late special, Seven had an hour news. Top Gear from 8pm to 9.30pm flopped for Nine, just 709,000. That it does well with male viewers is the only positive. Seven’s My Kitchen Rules and Packed to the Rafters draw so many female viewers in, that the males must be single, in another room or have some strange hold on the remote and won’t let go.
Conviction Kitchen on Seven at 9.30pm, 825,000, down over 900,000 from Rafters. But it won the 9.30pm timeslot and did well in the 25 to 54, 16 to 39 and 18 to 49 demos. As a result Seven had the top three programs in those demos and easily won the night.
TONIGHT: No doubt more quake coverage on all channels. Seven has another episode of My Kitchen Rules and then Criminal Minds. Nine has Mike & Molly and then The Farmer Wants a Wife. Ten had The Biggest Loser after The 7PM Project. The ABC has Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight and Laid at 9.30pm. SBS has Rex in Rome.
