The Winner: Miss Marple dropped around 200,000 viewers, and it was not hard to understand, a weak storyline and contrived finale. Bones on Seven beat it, but not The Mentalist. Ten did well in the demos, especially 16 to 39.

News & CA: Seven News won everywhere bar Adelaide where Nine had a solid win. Ten has restarted its 5pm news on Saturdays and Sundays to try and mute Nine’s effort in the same slot. Nine was the clear winner last night.

Ten is persisting with the 6pm News. Overall around 583,000 people watched Ten’s two news broadcasts, which about what the old Ten News at 5pm would get on Sundays last year, before the 6pm News started. That Ten was forced to restart the 5pm News tells us the network is admitting that it was wrong to move the long held 5pm News an hour forward. A victory to Nine.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Last week, another solid win for Seven overall, in the main channels and the digital channels. That’s the first four weeks of ratings for Seven. Sydney’s Mardi Gras parade on Saturday night averaged 108,000 viewers across the five metro markets. The NAB Cup semi final was the most watched program on Pay TV last week with 152,000 viewers. The Super Rugby union game between the Red from Queensland and the Brumbies averaged 113,000 viewers in the five metro markets. The One Day cricket on Fox Sports on Saturday night averaged 77,000 (so Mardi Gras, the AFL and rugby union all did better). On Nine the truncated one day international averaged 500,000.

Last night Seven was very strong in Sydney and Nine was surprisingly weak, again. In Melbourne, Nine’s traditional strength reasserted itself last night for a clear win

TONIGHT: The ABC has its news and current affairs line up with the new 7.30 starting, hosted by Leigh Sales and Chris Uhlmann.

Conviction Kitchen is on Seven tonight at 8.30pm after My Kitchen Rules. Nine has This Is Your Life and then the tricked up Michael Parkinson/David Frost chat — Parkinson: the Frost interview — at 9.30pm. Ten has The 7PM Project, Glee and if you want them, House and Good News Week. Man vs. Wild returns on SBS at 8.30pm

Small programming update, Ten has yanked the failed Blue Bloods from Wednesday night and replaced it with back to back episodes of Modern Family.
