Julia Gillard’s attendance at the Royal Wedding and comments about the death of Osama bin Laden kept her well ahead this week, despite the Budget being nigh. Wayne Swan lifted one spot but he’s not exactly dominating the pre-Budget fortnight so far as Costello and Keating did for so many years. Clearly the news cycle hasn’t helped him, but it will be interesting to see the Swan v Abbott numbers next week.

Biggest mover into the top ten was Stephen Smith, again owing to Obama getting Osama, is he perhaps pretty happy to be able to talk about an external defence issue rather than an internal one for the first time in a while?

The two newby State treasurers Mike Baird and Kim Wells were big movers this week with news of upcoming budgets. Baird was also in the news when treasury boss Michael Schur quit upon hearing he would have to reapply for his position.

Another big move, Peter Garrett with his and the Treasurer Wayne Swan’s announcement of the education funding scheme, while Chris Bowen and Scott Morrison dropped a few spots with the asylum seeker issue falling behind the wedding and Osama.

Asylum seekers moving down the list elsewhere, but still high on the list in talkbackland. Jonesy obviously didn’t express too much opinion on Kate’s frock, despite what he may have been thinking to himself.

How does a “journo” win a Gold Logie? By keeping it classy … “She has been a great influence on my life and has also got the best arse I have ever seen”… as all the lads at home sculled a beer.
