The Winners: Both Seven’s second episode of the local version of The Amazing Race and Nine’s second episode of Come Fly With Me dropped viewers last night.
The Amazing Race is following the script that the US versions have followed for Seven, start high, then soften. On Come Fly With Me I loved the married pilot couple and the arguing during the approach to the airport. I also don’t like flying very much, so it fed my paranoia quite nicely.
Offspring at 8.30pm on Ten, 905,000. Deserves more.

The Losers: Looking at the winners list from last night, there was more choice for viewers than on Sunday. So not real losers. No Ordinary Family on Seven at 7.30 pm, 827,000. Fading, as it did in the US. House returned at 9.30 pm for Ten, 472,000. Fading, again, interest low, get the ratings defibrillator. Stand clear…..
News & CA: Nine News won Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven won Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. TT won everywhere bar Melbourne which was won by ACA.
Australian Story was weak — weak subject matter — likewise Four Corners. The concussion issue has been around all football season, so why now?

Major Markets: Seven won the main channels and overall from Nine and Ten in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. In Perth, it was Seven from Ten and Nine (still weak). In Brisbane, it was Nine from Seven and Ten overall and the main channels. 7TWO won all five metro markets in the digitals. ONE seems to be cannibalising Eleven, its stable mate, as well as taking some viewers from Nine’s channels and perhaps 7mate. Seven leads Nine in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. In Perth its Seven, Ten and Nine. in Brisbane, its Nine from Seven and Ten.
(All shares on the basis of combined overnight 6pm to midnight All People)
Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven won All People. Nine and Ten did well. Viewers sort of happy.
Cloudstreet got 111,000 viewers on Sunday night. Nationally, its audience was just over 157,000. That doesn’t sound much but excluding sport, it was the 7th highest rating program on Pay TV this year. More importantly it did much better than some of the Showcase (Showtime) offerings in past years such as Showcase’s other Australian productions Satisfaction and Tangle; Deadwood and True Blood from the US and the current darling of TV bit torrenters, Boardwalk Empire.
TONIGHT: Australia’s Got Talent and Winners & Losers on Seven, MasterChef and NCIS on Ten. Nothing on Nine except AFP at 8pm.
The ABC has Foreign Correspondent and SBS has Insight. SBS also has Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking at 8.30pm. Also watch Message Stick at 6.30pm. Last night’s was a beauty, Wilma Reading, a wonderful singer who cracked the big time in the US and Europe at a far different time and ignored here. Some of her gigs make Olivia Newton John look like a pub singer. And the wonderful voice!
