The Losers: Ten, just using MasterChef to hang in there: it either has no interest in improving its offer to viewers most nights, or it just doesn’t have the programs to offer.

In Melbourne, Nine won overall and in the main channels with 423,000 unfortunates watching a game that meant nothing except to while away a cold Tuesday night fantasising about the coming weekend of football. GO won the digitals in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and shared Brisbane with Eleven. 7mate won Perth.

Seven leads Nine and Ten everywhere bar Perth where its Ten second and Nine third. The rankings in Sydney and Brisbane could change after the third and final Origin game on Nine tonight.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Nine staged the EJ Whitten Legends AFL Game in Melbourne where it did well. They will watch anything in the south, so long as it has a pair of short shorts, a sleeveless jumper and they kick a funny shaped football. Seven won nationally. Nine will be closer after tonight.

  • Australia’s Got Talent had a national audience of 2.195 million (639,000 in regional areas, 1.556 million in the metros).

All solid once again.

TONIGHT: State of Origin III rugby league on Nine. Then the Tour e France on SBS. Ten has MasterChef, Seven has not much at all, do we really care?

On Sky News, Graham Richardson is interviewing Tony Abbott at 8pm, right up against the State of Origin kick off. Now that is a silly scheduling, or one agreed to by Abbott’s handler in Tony O’Leary who doesn’t want Abbott to do this interview tonight. The thinking is, who will watch with Origin on Nine? Who in the press gallery in Canberra will be volunteered to monitor the Abbott interview. Will it really happen anyway?
