Windschuttle and Elliott sell Macleay. Elizabeth Elliott has sold her Sydney education institute Macleay College. Elliott, who will step down as Dean and CEO of the school, announced the move in an email to staff on Saturday obtained by Crikey:
Dear All
I am writing to let you know that after 23 years I will be stepping down as Dean and CEO of Macleay College and that ownership of Macleay has been transferred to the Australian College of the Arts International Pty. Ltd.
Change of ownership will take place immediately but will not affect the current teaching program of the college. Macleay will continue as a higher education provider using its name and accreditation. The college will continue to provide courses and curricula as advertised, using as far as possible the current teaching, administrative and marketing personnel. There will be no changes to advertised fees.
Incoming Dean Dr Raffaele Marcellino will bring with him some 15 years of distinguished educational and leadership experience in both the public and private higher education sectors. Incoming senior staff member Emeritus Professor Bob Robertson is a former Deputy Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Business of the University of Technology. New directors Bill Sweeney and Greg Jones will bring between them over 30 years experience in leadership and entrepreneurship in business, entertainment and the communications industries.
The new dean, senior staff member and board of directors intend to build upon Macleay’s reputation for the high quality of its education and the outstanding performance of its alumni, now consisting of some 8000 graduates.
I am confident the new team will ensure the success of Macleay’s future in every respect.
Yours sincerely
Elizabeth Elliott
Dean and CEO
Macleay College
Ten stalls on pay before bonings. Has Ten deliberately stalled enterprise bargaining negotiations with the Community and Public Sector Union and Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance so it doesn’t have to pay a 3% increase to the 60-plus staff who’ll be punted after July 13? Staff are wondering …
Another loss for Mardi Gras. Crikey flagged in February the significant financial hole Sydney Mardi Gras organisers had found themselves in ahead of this year’s event. As one mole noted on a reported $130,000 loss this financial year, it’s been a year of “cancelled parties, board leaks, fleeing sponsors and generally childish behaviour”. The Sydney Star Observer reports members of organising group New Mardi Gras will have a chance to vote on the performance of the board at an August 6 AGM. But insiders should feel free to let us know first. Email us your comments or send your tip anonymously.
Vodafone’s billing surprise. Vodafone has sent some customers a “correction” to its billing system. Alarmingly, one Crikey reader reports, they are going to start charging extra for the “use of services via the internet that require a personal log-in” — that is, any email, banking, Facebook, Twitter, news sites, etc …
Tiger complainants line up. The Tiger horror stories just keep coming. Another Crikey reader reports their flight from Melbourne to Sydney was cancelled due to unexplained “operational reasons”: “Tiger could not provide a seat on any later flight the same day even though I explained I needed to be in Sydney to comply with Family Court parenting orders. I had to spend a few hundred dollars buying a ticket from another airline and vowed never to fly again on Tiger.”
CORRECTION: An original version of this item incorrectly stated that Keith Windschuttle sold the business. Windschuttle is in fact not an owner of the business; it was sold by his wife Elizabeth Elliott. Crikey apologies for the error.
