The Winners: Nine’s night, thanks to strong showings by the News, 60 Minutes and especially Underbelly: Razor. But it wasn’t quite as dominant as Nine would have hoped.
- Underbelly: Razor (Nine) (8.30pm) — 1.760 million
- Nine News (6pm) — 1.511 million
- Seven News (6pm) — 1.419 million
- 60 Minutes (Nine) (7.30pm) — 1.403 million
- Sunday Night (Seven) (6.30pm) — 1.202 million
- RBT (Nine) (6.30pm) — 1.114 million
- The Force (Seven) (8pm) — 1.090 million
- Bones (Seven) (8.30pm) — 1.071 million
- Highway Patrol (Seven) (7.30pm) — 1.030 million
- Grand Designs (ABC) (7.30pm) — 1.020 million
The Losers: Nine’s new UK series Camelot flopped: 640,000 at 9.30pm — meaning 1.1 million people watching Underbelly: Razor didn’t bother staying with Nine. Seven’s Castle won the slot.
The Renovators on Ten, 733,000 at 7.30pm for an hour. It’s a bit of a ratings black hole, programs around it are sucked into its viewing killing maw. Bondi Rescue at 7pm, 753,000. Bondi Vet at 6.30pm, 670,000. Disappointingly low for such good programs. Is Ten’s constant shuffling to try and boost The Renovators hurting its other successes? The Renovators is a turkey, Ten viewers have voted with their remotes, but desperate Ten management are not listening.
News & CA: Nine News won Sydney, Brisbane (thanks to the NRL game involving Brisbane and Souths) and won Adelaide. Seven won the rest.
The Bolt Report‘s 103,000 is close to its lowest figure for the 10am broadcast. The 77,000 for the 4.30pm repeat is the lowest. Now, audience figures for some morning programs were low (Inside Business and Offsiders), but Insiders was around the previous week’s levels. If The Bolt Report was on Seven or Nine it’s future would be very much up in the air. For the first time since The Bolt Report started, Meet The Press not only got to within 12,000 of the 10am broadcast, but had more viewers than the 4.30pm repeat.

Major Markets: A mixed night. Nine was nowhere as dominant as the Underbelly and 60 Minutes figures suggested. Nine won overall and the main channels in Sydney and Melbourne (a big win in Sydney in particular). But Seven won from Nine and Ten overall and the main channels in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, except the main channels in Adelaide with Seven and Nine shared the night. ONE won all five metro markets because of the formula one grand prix .
(All shares on the basis of combined overnight 6pm to midnight All People)
Glenn Dyer’s comments: Last week Seven won in All People, Nine won in the main channels (by 0.1%) and Seven won in the digitals.
Nine let its huge win last Sunday night disappear by Saturday. Nine won Sydney and Brisbane. Seven won Melbourne, but lost Adelaide and Perth by huge 10 percentage point margins. Ten finished third, but not before a close tussle with the ABC for much of the week.
In fact, Ten was very weak, again and its most watched program for the week was the fresh Tuesday episode of Modern Family with 936,000 viewers, at No.27. On other words, Ten didn’t have a program with a million viewers or more.
Last night Underbelly: Razor won. Its appeal is mixed, as it was last year. First in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Second in Brisbane (behind Nine’s 6pm News). Third in Perth. In fact, the further west you went, the less interested audiences were. Camelot was supposed to hang onto quite a few of Underbelly: Razor‘s audience at 9.30pm. In the end very few stick and Nine’s big win became a much smaller one. Nine needs more than just one program. It’s clear that it doesn’t have it.
For the rest of the week, Seven’s strong Tuesday night will ensure it moves into the lead. If Nine repeats last week’s performances on Monday and Wednesday nights it will win the week.
- Underbelly: Razor was No.1 with 2.424 million viewers, with 664,000 (No.1) in regional areas and 1.760 million in the five metro markets.
- Nine News (6pm) was next with 2.153 million people, with 642,000 in regional markets (No.2) and 1.511 million in the metro markets.
- 60 Minutes was next with 2.016 million, with 613,000 in regional areas (No.3) and 1.403 million in the metro markets.
- Seven News (6pm) was fourth nationally with 471,000 in the regions (No.5) and 1.419 million in the metro markets.
- Sunday Night was fifth nationally with 1.705 million, 503,000 in the regions (No.4) and 1.202 million in the metro markets.
Tonight: The ABC’s night of news and current affairs from 7pm. Will Ten finish fourth behind the ABC tonight, for yet another Monday night? Watch Four Corners on the phone-hacking scandal in London. SBS has Swift and Shift Couriers.
Seven starts The X Factor for 90 minutes from 7.30pm and then has the disappointing Body of Proof at 9pm. Nine has The Farmer Wants a Wife at 7.30pm and then Rescue Special Ops at 8.30pm.
Ten has Can of Worms at 8.30pm. Ignore The Renovators.
