The X Factor dominance wins for Seven

The Winners: Seven’s night, thanks to one program, The X Factor, plus the 6pm News and Today Tonight. The Footy Shows: 689,000 nationally. 160,000 for the NRL one in Sydney and 100,000 in Brisbane. An average 263,000 for the AFL program in Melbourne, which fell to No.9 in the market (usually in the top three or four). It’s why Nine didn’t win Melbourne last night.

The Losers: Ten and Nine, again.

Rush, two hours on Ten from 8.30pm, 776,000 for the first episode, 710,000 for the second episode at 9.30pm. The Renovators on Ten at 7.30pm, 625,000.

Drug Bust on Seven at 8.30pm on Seven, 640,000. Crash Investigation Unit on Seven at 9pm, 511,000.

Repeats of The Big Bang Theory from 7pm to 8.30pm: the three episodes averaged from 648,000 to 692,000. Weak, but better than Seven’s 8.30-9.30pm.

News & CA: Nine News and ACA failed to make the million-viewer mark last night. It was the second night in a row that happened to ACA.

Despite that, Seven News still lost Sydney to Nine News, 272,000 to 287,000 for Nine. Seven News won the rest and TT had a clean sweep. It added viewers in Sydney from the news.

Seven’s Deal Or No Deal with 538,000 viewers beat Hot Seat (529,000) on Nine nationally, but lost Sydney 153,000 to 131,000 viewers. And that was why Seven News lost Sydney last night.

Lateline Business was News 24’s most watched program last night.

FTA: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 31.4% from Nine (3 channels) on 25.7%, Ten (3) was on 21.3%, the ABC (4) was on 15.4% and SBS (2) ended with 6.2%. Seven now leads the week with 32.2% from Nine on 25.7% and Ten on 20.4%.
Main Channel: Seven won with 22.3% from Nine on 19.9%, Ten was on 14.6%, ABC 1 was on 11.3% and SBS ONE finished with 4.2%. Seven leads the week with 24.3% from Nine in 19.2% and Ten on 13.9%. ABC 1 is on 12.4%.
Digital: 7TWO won with 4.9%, from Eleven on 4.4%, 7mate was on 4.3%, GO was on 3.0%, ABC 2 and Gem were on 2.8% each, ONE was on 2.3%, SBS TWO was on 2.0% (close to its highest ever figure), News 24 was on 0.8% and ABC 3 was on 0.5%. That’s an FTA viewing share last night of 28.8%. 7TWO leads the week with 4.3% from Eleven on 3.9% and GO with 3.7% with 7mate on 3.6%.
Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 25.8% from Nine (3) on 21.1%, Ten (3) was on 17.4%, pay TV (200-plus channels) was on 15.4%, the ABC (4) was on 12.6%, and SBS (2) ended on 5.1%. The 15 FTA channels had a total TV viewing share last night of 84.6%, with the 10 digitals on 22.8% and the five main channels on 61.8%.
Regional: Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with a share of 33.4% from WIN/NBN on 27.3%, SC Ten (3) was on 19.4%, the ABC (4) was on 13.5% and SBS (2) ended on 6.0%. Prime/7Qld won the main channels with 23.6% from WIN/NBN on 21.3%. 7TWO won the digitals with 5.2%, from 7mate on 4.6% and Eleven on 4.5%. the 10 digital channels had an FTA viewing share last night of 27.0%. Prime/7Qld leads the week with 33.1% from WIN/NBN on 28.5%.

Major Markets: Seven from Nine and Ten everywhere, overall and the main channels. 7TWO won Sydney and Melbourne. 7mate was Adelaide and Perth. Eleven won Brisbane. Seven leads Nine and Ten everywhere.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: There was only one show that dominated last night, The X Factor, which is bad news for Nine and Ten in coming weeks.

Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year averaged 847,000 last night for Nine at 8.30. It won the slot, but the average keeps falling as Nine strangles the life out of the idea. Seven’s performance in the 8.30-9.30pm slot was terrible.

The X Factor was the only program to crash the 2 million-viewer mark last night. It had 2.035 million with 632,000 in the regions and 1.403 million in the five metro markets.
Seven News was next with 1.743 million viewers nationally, with 502,000 in the regions and 1.,241 million nationally.
Home and Away was third with 1.596 million viewers, made up of 565,000 in the regions and 1.031 million in metro markets.
Nine News was fourth with 1.423 million, with 473,000 viewers in the regions and 949,000 in the metro markets.
A Current Affair was fifth with 1.419 million viewers nationally, with 525,000 viewers in the regions and 894,000 in metro markets.

Today Tonight didn’t make it to the top 10 programs in the regions last night.

Tonight: Final home-and-away round for the AFL this weekend on Seven tonight. That’s in southern markets. In Sydney and Brisbane it’s a movie at 8.30 after Better Homes and Gardens. The NRL is on Nine in Sydney and Brisbane and it’s the final round of the season proper with finals starting next weekend. Ten has The Renovators. The ABC has Silent Witness.

Saturday: NRL and AFL on Foxtel and Ten (it’s Ten’s final AFL home-and-away broadcasts). No live AFL in Sydney and Brisbane though. The ABC starts Monroe, at last, at 8.30pm after a fresh episode of Dr Who. Seven has movies, as does Nine. Inspector Morse on 7TWO at 8.40pm.

Sunday: The morning chats from 8am. Landline at Midday on the ABC, NRL and AFL on Foxtel, Seven and Nine. Underbelly: Razor on Nine. Will the audience again fall? I reckon. That’s after 60 Minutes. Sunday Night and Bones on Seven. Seven also starts its bushranger series, Wild Boys, at 7.30pm. Watch with your critical faculties suspended, I think. A bit like Underbelly. The Renovators on Ten. The ABC has a documentary on the legendary Anna Wintour, of Vogue, called The September Issue. SBS has Dateline.
