If there was any doubt that the events of September 11, 2001, continue to cast a shadow over the American psyche, just take a look at front pages across the US:

As Guy Rundle wrote of the fading world power in Friday’s Crikey: “Ultimately in trying to overcome the forces that created 9/11, it has been in thrall to them, and to the event itself, honouring it by failing to move beyond.”
As for the memorials, the moments of silence, the lest we forget, there is no need: “… the burning tower and the second plane have been printed by heat on our retinae, never out of the mind’s eye, 10 years old, and right now, ever afresh.”
