The Winners: The Renovators finished with a burst for Ten last night. And Ten therefore had a big night. Any win is a good win, especially as they have been few for Ten this year.
Eleven also won the digitals in the metro markets, so it is more smiles all round at Ten.
- The Renovators (winner announced) (Ten) (9.05pm) — 1.264 million
- Seven News (6pm) — 1.129 million
- The Renovators (auction night) (Ten) (7.30pm) — 1.122 million

The Losers: Ten, for The Renovators. A one-night wonder after weeks of low ratings and not meeting guarantees given to advertisers. Hawaii Five 0 after the final of The Renovators, 524,000. That means nearly 750,000 viewers chose not to stay on Ten for this flop.
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour on Seven at 8.30pm, 610,000 (not a winning total). Law and Order: Los Angeles at 9.30pm Seven, 445,000.
CSI on Nine at 8.30pm, 586,000. Very weak.
News & CA: A Current Affair had another night with less than a million viewers; 820,000. The program seems to be in decline, no matter who is hosting. ACA‘s drop is more than the erosion of 6-7pm audiences we have seen since the start of the digital channels. Daylight saving is having an impact (as we see with the low figures for Ten’s News at 5pm. But daylight saving is a constant for all networks for half the year).
At the same time, Seven’s weakness in Sydney from 5.30pm to 7pm is not a good look and has been dragging on now for months.
Nine News won both Sydney (79,000 in Sydney, a huge margin) and Melbourne last night and ACA won Sydney, but it lost Melbourne by 68,000.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: For the first time in weeks, Ten’s publicity department could send out a release that proclaimed: “Ten wins Wednesday night prime-time in total people (26.1%) and all key demographics: 18-49 (31.6%), 25-54 (30.9%) and 16-39 (32.7%).”
When wins are rarer than hen’s teeth, every victory should be highlighted to remind the market that Ten is still in there, battling away.
Readers may have noticed that while The Renovators also did well in regional areas, Ten overall didn’t have the same success there last night as in metro markets. Regional viewers remain suspicious of most reality style programs.
The Hamster Wheel at 9.30pm on ABC 1 averaged 823,000 in metro areas, down from the debut last week of 857,000. The program won the 9.30-10pm timeslot, which made it ABC TV’s most successful program last night.
The top five programs nationally last night were:
- The Renovators (winner announced) — 1.762 million
- Seven News — 1.605 million
- The Renovators (auction night) — 1.584 million
- Nine News — 1.499 million
- Home and Away — 1.490 million
