The Winners: Seven’s night, easily, again. Seven won from 6pm to 9.30pm. End of story.

  1. Packed to the Rafters (Seven) (8.30pm) — 1.605 million
  2. The X Factor (Seven) (7.30pm) — 1.418 million
  3. Seven News (6pm) — 1.164 million
  4. Today Tonight (Seven) (6.30pm) — 1.143 million
  5. Home and Away (Seven) (7pm) — 1.058 million.
  6. The Big Bang Theory (Nine) (8pm) — 1.014 million
  7. NCIS (Ten) (8.30pm) — 1.006 million

The Losers: Nine’s fresh episode of Two and a Half Men at 8.30pm: 875,000. A flop for a program that started with more than 2.5 million viewers. It’s a pale copy of the Charlie Sheen version — silly and not very amusing at all.

Nine’s Survivor: South Pacific at 9.30pm, 429,000. A tired format getting its just deserts. United States of Tara on the ABC, also at 9.30pm, 278,000. Just terrible.

News & CA: Seven’s problems in Sydney at 6pm are more than just the lead-in. Last night the gap between Hot Seat and deal and Deal or No Deal narrowed to just 21,000 nationally and 7000 in Sydney (129,000 to 122,00) and yet Seven’s 6pm News lost to Nine by a massive 78,000 viewers, 307,000 to 229,000. Seven News won the four other metro markets.

As a result, ACA beat TT in Sydney by 5000 viewers, 279,000 to 274,000 ( in other words TT added viewers from the news in Sydney while ACA lost them). TT won the other metro markets. 6.30 with George Negus faded again after the brief rise above 400,000 on Monday evening.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: An easy win for Seven and Nine must be despairing over the collapse of ratings for Two and a Half Men. Nine also must now be wondering what it has to do to halt the steady erosion of ratings for ACA at 6.30pm. And Seven knows that its problem is the black hole slowly swallowing the 6pm News in Sydney.

The five most watched programs nationally last night were:

  1. Packed To The Rafters — 2.354 million
  2. The X Factor — 2.089 million
  3. Seven News — 1.736 million
  4. Home and Away — 1.557 million
  5. Today Tonight — 1.465 million

Tonight: The ABC for Spicks & Specks, Gruen Planet and The Hamster Wheel. Hopefully that will make us laugh and help offset the uneasy feeling some viewers might have from watching the promised Alan Jones interview Leigh Sales last night said she had tonight on 7.30.

Nine has CSI if you are desperate for nostalgia, seeing Ted Danson is in the lead role and looking like he could still be behind a bar in Cheers. Seven has The One: Australia’s Most Gifted Psychic — the rubbishy show about psychics. Ten returns Bondi Vet at 8pm. It has the weak Hawaii Five O at 8.30pm. SBS has Amazon with Bruce Parry at 7.30pm.
