The Winners: Nine’s night.

Seven’s Wild Boys averaged 896,000 at 7.30pm. That explains why Seven put it down last week. If it was a really attractive program, it should have shone on a dull night of TV like last night.

CSI on Nine at 8.30pm, 682,000. Can you remember when this program used to get 1.5 million viewers on a Sunday night?

  1. Sunday Night (Seven) (6.30pm) — 1.304 million
  2. 60 Minutes (Nine) (7.30pm) — 1.260 million
  3. Seven News (6pm) — 1.183 million
  4. Frozen Planet (Nine) (6.30pm) — 1.003 million

The Losers: Nothing really, the whole offering last night veered from the above average (60 Minutes and Sunday Night) to the weak (The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister on ABC 1 at 8.30pm).

Terra Nova on Ten at 8.30pm, 692,000.

Glenn Dyer’s comments: Seven won last week nationally, metro and the regions. Seven also won the digitals channels.

Last night, Sunday Night and 60 Minutes stood out, as did Frozen Planet.

Summer is almost here. Ten is showing golf, soon Nine will have international cricket and then Seven’s tennis will be seen.

The Bolt Report’s 4.30pm repeat was pre-empted by Ten’s telecast of the Australian Open Golf, which averaged 491,000 for five hours from noon. That in turn boosted the audience of Ten’s 5pm national News to the point where it beat Nine’s so-called “first at five” News by more than 270,000 viewers.

It also meant that Ten and The Bolt Report couldn’t get solace from the afternoon repeat boosting the total audience for the program and offsetting the weak first broadcast at 10am. Inside Business on the ABC beat it soundly and Insiders had more than 100,000 viewers more than The Bolt Report, excluding the News 24 simulcast. Meet the Press had its worst figures at 10.30am since The Bolt Report started in May.

The five most-watched programs nationally last night were:

  1. Sunday Night — 1.920 million
  2. 60 Minutes — 1.855 million
  3. Seven News — 1.711 million
  4. Frozen Planet — 1.430 million
  5. Nine News — 1.412 million.

Wild Boys finished sixth with 1.378 million, thanks to another solid night in regional areas.

Tonight: A weak night all round. Ten has Junior MasterChef as its highlight. The final Australian Story is on at 8pm on the ABC. Seven has The X Factor and Body of Proof. Nine has The Mentalist. SBS has Mythbusters.
