The Glenn Dyer breakdown: That Rafael Nadal knows how to do the right thing by Channel Seven, doesn’t he?

Last night’s match against Tomáš Berdyc went four sets and ended just after midnight — and more than  a million people watched Seven for the four and a half hours. Nadal now faces Roger Federer in a semifinal on Friday night, the dream game of the Open. And that was the night.

It’s also why the figures for Ten’s The Biggest Loser (825,000 for the first weigh-in) may not be indicative of how the series will go. Then again, with stiffer competition next week from Nine and Seven, they could be very accurate, which will be unfortunate for Ten’s chances of a comeback this year.

Tonight: Outnumbered on the ABC at 8pm: watch it and enjoy the night. Ignore the Australia Day program, Australia Celebrates, at 8.30pm. The Thick of It is a repeat at 10pm. Seven has more tennis. Nine has the cricket this afternoon (hurrah). Ten has The Biggest Loser and starts a new series of The Good Wife.

Thursday: More cricket and tennis on Nine and Seven respectively. Ten has The Biggest Loser and another new series, A Gifted Man, at 8pm and a fresh Law and Order SVU. A Gifted Man can’t be all that strong if it’s starting on a Thursday night. Nine also has a fresh Getaway at night and then repeats. The ABC has an Adam Hills special, Adam Hills: Inflatable, at 8.30 pm.

The Losers: Ten, for the encores (repeats) of Young Talent Time (541,000), New Girl (553,000) and Homeland (380,000). I know it was to lift the visibility of the three programs, but it could be a case of second time round bores the pants of the audience for next Sunday night. Encores are standard TV operating procedure for new programs. But they still are repeats.
