The Glenn Dyer breakdown: From flop, to disaster, to bomb, all in the space of four nights: Nine’s Excess Baggage averaged 555,000 from 7pm. Seeing the program averaged 880,000 on its debut on Monday, the loss is dramatic: 325,000 fewer viewers by Thursday night, a fall of 37%.

Ten’s The Biggest Loser averaged a weak 734,000 last night and is clearly preferred by viewers.

Tonight: Twenty20 cricket, Australia versus India, on Nine from Melbourne. Glee on Ten (buried) at 7pm. Then The Sound of Music. Seven returns Better Homes and Gardens at 7.30pm, the ABC has the final repeat of Midsomer Murders at 8.30pm.

Saturday: Nine has an NRL match in Sydney: NSW and Qld. The ABC has Accused at 8.30pm after the New Tricks repeat. Seven has movies. Ten has a repeat of a Jamie Oliver recipe series, the weak An Idiot Abroad, which returns and The Graham Norton Show. The ABC starts a weekend version of its breakfast news at 8am Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday: The morning chats are back in force: Insiders, Inside Business and Offsiders on the ABC. The Bolt Report and Meet The Press on Ten. Weekend Sunrise and Today continue on Seven and Nine respectively.

Nine has the first One Day cricket international from Melbourne from 2pm: it’s Australia v Sri Lanka.

Ten has its Sunday night line up: Young Talent Time, Modern Family, New Girl and Homeland, with House returning at 9.35pm Seven also has its ratings line up for Sunday night with Sunday Night (including Mike Willesee), Border Security, The Force, Bones and Castle all returning with fresh episodes.

The Super Bowl on Ten and ONE Monday at 10am….

The Straits on ABC 1 at 8.30pm, 599,000. A weak reception. Give it a couple of weeks. Not encouraging though. Family Confidential, also on ABC 1, at 8 pm, 499,000.

Desperate Housewives on Seven at 8.30pm, 620,000. It did well in the demos, with small numbers, like so many other programs.

CSI on Nine at 8.30pm, 764,000. Not strong, but enough to win the timeslot. It’s stable mate CSI New York at 9.30pm, 347,000.

A Gifted Man on Ten at 8pm, 524,000.

Digital: GO and Eleven shared the night with 4.4% each. 7Mate was next with 3.9%, 7TWO was on 3.7%, Gem was on 3.3%, ABC 2 was on 2.8%, ONE was on 2.7%, SBS TWO was on 1.4%, News 24 was on 1.1% and ABC 3 was on 0.8%. The 10 digital channels had a total FTA share last night of 28.5%. Eleven leads the week with 3.6% from GI on 3.4% and 7TWO in 3.2%.

Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 24.0% from Nine (3) on 20.1%, Ten (3) was on 17.6%, Pay TV (200 plus channels) was on 17.1%, the ABC (4) on 13.7%, and SBS (2) was on 5.1%. The 15 FTA channels had a total share of 82.9% last night. The 10 digital channels had a share of 22.9% and the five main channels, 60.0%.

Prime/7Qld won the main channels with 20.8%, with WIN/NBN on 18.3%. 7mate with 5.9% won the digitals with 7TWO on 4.9% and GO on 3.9%. The 10 digital channels had a total share of 31.4% last night. Prime/7Qld leads the week with 33.7% from WIN/NBN on 27.9%.

Major Markets: A very mixed night with Ten again weak in Melbourne, and Nine very weak in Brisbane (a solid market normally) and in Perth, which is not a surprise. Seven and Nine shared the overall win in Sydney, but Seven won the main channels there and in the four other metro markets. Seven won overall in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Ten was pushed out of third in Melbourne in the main channels by ABC 1. Ten finished second in both in Brisbane and Perth, which Nine down to a weak third. GO was the digitals in Sydney and Melbourne, Eleven won Brisbane, 7TWO won Adelaide and 7mate won Perth. Seven leads in all five metro markets.
