Gunns one day, Enpax the next? Gunns CEO Greg L’Estrange isn’t one to avoid painful realities. Eighteen months ago he admitted defeat in the so-called forest wars, declaring the timber industry had been “out-thought and out-played” by environmentalists.

Now, in a bid to restore Gunns’ ailing reputation and share price, he’s considering changing the company’s name and relocating its head office from Launceston to Melbourne. Gunns recently lodged an application for the name Enpax Australia as a trademark, The Australian Financial Review reports today.

Palmer’s company in the red. Exactly how much money Clive Palmer has — and how he gets it in the first place — has long puzzled the country’s financial scribes. His fortune ($5 billion, according to BRW; $795 million according to Forbes) certainly isn’t coming from his biggest company Minerology, which has reported losses for the past three years.

Treasurer Wayne Swan — who has attacked Twiggy Forrest for not paying company tax — is sure to go to town with the revelation that Minerology paid no tax last year.

Robert Doyle reloads for a second term. After months of speculation, Robert Doyle today announced that he will run again for the position of Melbourne lord mayor in a textbook case of media management.

High-selling tabloid the Herald Sun was handed the scoop — along with a list of Doyle’s second-term priorities — but the mayor held off on a formal announcement until his regular 9.20am chat with Neil Mitchell.

The 3AW host, who campaigned in favour of Doyle during the last election, wished Doyle good luck. Both men featured on The Power Index‘s Melbourne Power List earlier this year.

“I’ve got to say I don’t have all the answers,” Doyle told us. “I don’t have all of the received wisdom. That used to be me when I was much younger but now I know I’m not the smartest guy in the room.”
