The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Seven won narrowly overall, but the reality is that Nine won thanks to The Block and the AFL Footy Show in Melbourne. Seven won the other markets and Nine was especially weak in Adelaide and Perth.
There was some help from Celebrity Apprentice, but it dragged on and on. The boardroom part of Celebrity Apprentice averaged 907,000 and the challenge, 810,000. The Biggest Loser, 673,000 from 7pm on Ten. Around the country Ten was again weak in markets such as Sydney and Perth.
Silks on ABC1 at 8.30pm. Crownies with a British accent? It might have a touch of North Square being located in a barristers’ chambers, but that is about all. The 614,000 was sort of OK, let’s give it another week or so to see if the storylines get sorted out and get involved.
The Footy Shows averaged 768,000 in the five metro markets, dominated by the 360,000 in Melbourne. The NRL show averaged 170,000 in Sydney and 103,000 in Brisbane.
This weekend, Seven manages to cover all nine AFL matches in various markets tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.
Tonight: AFL on Seven (main and 7mate) and pay TV. NRL on Nine (main and Gem). The ABC has the delightful Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries on ABC1. The Shadow Line finishes tonight at 9.30. Seven has Better Homes and Gardens for the Sydney, NSW, Brisbane and Qld markets. And if you can remember, Young Talent Time is on Ten at 7 o’clock and it’s the final. We won’t see it again.
Saturday: New Tricks and another episode of the interesting Five Days on ABC1. That’s after Whitechapel, which makes for a solid night for addicts of UK TV. Seven has AFL on main and 7mate in the afternoon and evening (go the Swannies). Seven has main channel movies elsewhere. Nine has Australia’s Funniest Home Videos at 6.30, a repeat of The Voice after that, then movies. Ten has movies and The Graham Norton Show, which sits very oddly in the schedule. NRL on pay TV. The highlight: the FA Cup on SBS One from 1am Sunday.
Sunday: The FA Cup continues. Later the morning chats. Watch for Treasurer Wayne Swan and lots of budget talk. NRL on Nine (main and Gem) and on pay TV. AFL on Seven, (main and 7mate) and on pay TV. The Block, 60 Minutes and The Mentalist on Nine. Dancing with the Stars and Bones on Seven. But the highlight will be the return of MasterChef on Ten at 7.30pm, after The Biggest Loser.
