The Glenn Dyer breakdown: The Voice meant a big win for Nine. The Voice did 2.329 million in metro markets and 3.109 million nationally. But that was down around 300,000 from the previous Monday. It is now just above its launch national figure of 3.03 million.
It wasn’t good news for MasterChef which failed to crack a million viewers (996,000) in the metro markets. Ten said MasterChef was watched by 1.1 million, according to its exact start and end times, 7 pm to 8.14 pm and not 8.10 pm as in the schedule. MasterChef averaged just over 1.3 million nationally (including regional markets).
But last night we saw the real failure of Ten: it has no second ranking programs. To be beaten for yet another Monday night by ABC 1, on the second night of MasterChef, underlines the paucity of programming at the network. Ten has been commissioning lots of new programs for later in the year and 2013.
Australian Story averaged 786,000. Did we need to see the personal side of Clive Palmer? Yes. But wouldn’t you like to see a warts and all effort that gave his life so far some perspective?
Seven’s raid on TV’s bone yard produced The Price is Right at 5pm yesterday: it averaged 536,000 and boosted Deal or No Deal at 5.30pm to 747,000 and past Hot Seat on Nine (704,000). That didn’t help Seven News which lost Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane last night.
Tonight: MasterChef on Ten and The Block on Nine. But Ten also has The Biggest Loser grand final after at 8pm, ending at 10pm.
Packed to the Rafters on Seven at 8.30pm. Seven has flipped Australia’s Got Talent to tomorrow night. In its place it is running fresh episodes of Border Security and The Force. SBS has Insight and Dateline from 8.30pm.
The ABC covers the federal budget: the speech at 7.30pm and the reactions at 8pm. Ten (10.15pm) and Nine (11.30pm) have budget news reports. Seven doesn’t seem to have any scheduled, but will run small updates during the evening.
