The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Nine’s night, thanks to The Voice. It was solid again last night, but has now shed over 600,000 viewers from its April 22 peak of 2.814 million in metro markets. Nationally, the loss is even greater, down 900,000 viewers from 3.936 million the same night to 3.023 million last night. It’s gone from a super mega hit to “just” a super hit. The Voice also powered Nine to a win in regional markets as well.
Nine debuted Tricky Business after The Voice. The ratings said it averaged 1.160 million from 9.30pm. But it didn’t. Because it started late as The Voice ran over time. Tricky Business started around 9.42pm and ran until 10.42pm and averaged 987,000. That’s OK, but no world beater.
Seven’s AFL game in southern markets (Carlton v St Kilda) averaged 519,000 (325,000 in Melbourne) in the main channels and was whipped by MasterChef, The Block and The Voice. Including the audiences in regions on the main channel and on 7mate across the country, a total of 762,000 people watched the AFL last night. A further 258,000 people watched the game on Pay TV.
Tonight: Ten has MasterChef and the first episode of a bikie drama called Bikie Wars: Brothers in Arms. Nine has The Block and then a fresh The Big Bang Theory. The ABC returns Foreign Correspondent at 8pm.
Seven has Packed to the Rafters, which is fading like the curtains. Before that, it starts a new show called Once Upon a Time at 7.30pm. It’s aimed at female viewers and one of the most hyped new programs from Seven for a long time.
The top 10 national programs (metro & regional combined): The audience for Tricky Business was actually closer to 1.05 million with the more accurate start finish times.

The Losers: Ten, in Sydney, beaten by the ABC overall and ABC 1. So much for the pulling power of MasterChef in the country’s most important TV market. To make it worse for Ten, Seven ran a weak movie in Sydney from 7.30pm to 10pm) which averaged just 121,000. MasterChef beat that, but so weak was the rest of Ten’s schedule that Seven beat it into third place in Sydney. That was a very weak effort by Ten. Seven’s The Price is Right: 386,000 at 5pm.
Metro News & CA: Nine News and A Current Affair had big wins over Seven news and Today Tonight in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven News and Today Tonight won the rest, which didn’t really matter very much.
