The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Seven won the night, but the big messages were: Bikie Wars: Brothers in Arms on Ten couldn’t hold last week’s solid 1.26 million metro figure (1.828 million nationally) and lost ground to under a million viewers (905,000). The loss was more than a quarter of the debut audience. Nationally it shed 500,000 viewers from last week.

And Seven’s Once Upon a Time also lost ground on its second time up last night at 7.30pm: the 1.160 million viewers last night was down 160,000 or so viewers from the 1.350 million for the first episode last week. Nationally it lost 235,000 viewers from last week.

And MasterChef  just snuck into the million viewer list with 1.031 million (1.397 million nationally). That’s still OK, but it is no repeat of even 2011. Nine News had a very strong night, easily beating Seven News nationally, while A Current Affair beat Today Tonight by 400,00 viewers across metro and national markets. Ten said it won the 18 to 49 age group.

Tonight: Rugby league’s State of Origin game one from Melbourne on Nine from 7.30pm (Nine main channel in AFL markets as well as Sydney and Brisbane). Randling and Laid on ABC1. Offspring and MasterChef Australia on Ten. Repeats on Seven, which is running dead in northern markets, Australia’s Got Talent in southern (non-rugby league) markets.
