The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Nine’s night. The Block did well in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, where it was 1st or 2nd for the night, but not so in Adelaide and Perth where it is down the top 10 a bit. In fact it was the big winning margin in Melbourne that got Nine home. Nine and Ten though did far better in the demos than Seven. Pay TV had its best night of the week so far.
News 24 failed to cover any of the Jeremy Hunt testimony at the Leveson inquiry last night which was disappointing. It was far more important than the blather from Tony Blair on Monday night.
WARNING! Diamond Jubilee boredom alert: The ABC has already given us three episodes of The Diamond Queen, now the ABC and the commercial networks will give us more coverage of the actual event starting on Sunday night. In fact we will have, for the first time in years, one of the best known bits of classical music played on commercial TV in this country with Handel’s Water Music getting an outing for the River Thames parade on Sunday night and Monday morning. Today and Sunrise are out of London. Nine will of course remind us they have the London Olympics next month.
Tonight: NRL on Nine (main channel and Gem), AFL on Seven (main channel and 7mate) and on Pay TV. Better Homes and Gardens on Seven in NRL markets/states. Ten has MasterChef‘s master class. The ABC Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell and then Silent Witness.
Saturday: The ABC ends New Tricks at 7.30pm. Hustle returns at 9.30pm for its few fans. Movies on Seven and Nine, and Ten, after The Graham Norton Show. SBS has Bollywood Star — watch at 7.30pm if you are at home. It will be easier to understand than last weekend’s overdose of Eurovision. NRL on Pay TV, AFL on Seven, main channels and 7mate.
Sunday: Morning chats. Landline on ABC 1 at Noon. AFL on Seven and Pay TV, NRL on pay TV and Nine. At night Seven has Dancing with the Stars and Downton Abbey. Nine has The Block and 60 Minutes, Ten has MasterChef. The ABC has a movie of that Patrick White novel: Eye of The Storm; a chance to watch two fine actors in Judy Davis and Geoffrey Rush.
