The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Nine won clearly thanks to the combination of the Footy Shows, The Block and Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year‘s attempts to worsen the euro crisis. Seven and Ten were never in the hunt. End of story. Nine and Ten also did better than Seven in the demos. Seven did better overall because of the performance of its two digital channels, 7TWO (Wimbledon) and 7mate. That helped Seven, through Prime/7Qld won overall in regional markets, but was useless in the main channels battle where Nine (through WIN/NBN) won easily.
Tonight: NRL on Nine (main channel and digital), AFL on Seven (main channel and digital) and Pay TV. Better Homes and Gardens in northern markets. Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell and then Silent Witness on ABC 1. MasterChef on Ten. Tennis on Seven from Wimbledon (7TWO and main channel.). After the NRL on Nine, Australia plays England in the first of five one day games. This one is from Lords.
Saturday: AFL on Seven (main channel and digital) and Pay TV, which also has NRL. Death in Paradise on ABC 1. The Tour de France starts from 10pm on SBS 1 with the prologue. Wimbledon on 7TWO and then Seven.
Sunday: Morning chats, AFL on Seven (main channel and digital), NRL on Nine and Pay TV. Sunday Night, Billy Connolly’s Route 66 and Downton Abbey on Seven. 60 Minutes and The Block grand final on Nine. MasterChef on Ten. Tour de France on SBS 1. The second of the three parts of Sporting Nation at 7.30pm on ABC 1. The second one day international between Australia and England on Gem.
