The Glenn Dyer breakdown: A big win for Seven has Nine’s lack of follow up programming after The Block and The Voice exposed. Yes, Nine had a big Sunday night and will have a big night tomorrow night with the third and final NRL State of Origin game. And Nine’s News and A Current Affair was again stronger than Seven in the key markets of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. But after 7pm, Nine had nothing and it ran fourth behind Seven, Ten and the ABC. It was the worst performance since before Easter.
Nine’s weak performance allowed Seven to grab a clean sweep of the five metro markets, which Nine couldn’t achieve on Sunday night with the grand final of The Block.
The audience for the Tour de France on SBS ONE at 10pm jumped from just 83,000 for the news at 9.30pm, to average 223,000 for the next couple of hours. There is a real audience for top class cycling. For the European Cup final between Spain and Italy early yesterday morning on SBS ONE, 135,000 watched in metro markets and 155,000 nationally (22,000 in regional markets).
Sunday night update: The updated figures for Sunday night show that 60 Minutes didn’t average more than 1.76 million viewers. Adjusted for the late start because of The Block running over, 60 Minutes averaged just over 1.2 million for the hour from 8.46pm to 9.47pm.
Tonight: Winners & Losers on Seven. MasterChef and NCIS on Ten. Race For London on ABC 1. Nothing much on Nine. Tennis from Wimbledon on Seven and 7TWO tonight. The Tour de France is on SBS ONE from 10pm. Being Lara Bingle is on at 8pm tonight on Ten. Will it last?
