The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Nine ran dead, so Seven won and Ten dined out as a result, with MasterChef continuing its solid run home. Nine tries a bit harder tonight, but that can’t disguise the fact that last night was its worst of the year..
MasterChef had more than 1.4 million metro viewers and 1.936 million nationally. It was number one in metro markets and nationally, but regional viewers are still not as comfortable with the program as the metro audiences are. It was the 6th most watched program last night. The first grand final of Australia’s Got Talent managed to average just over 1 million metro viewers and 1.756 million nationally. It was the most watched program in regional areas. That isn’t a solid end to marquee program for Seven. Justin Bieber probably ensured the audience lifted from the two weak efforts. And that was the night.
301,000 metro viewers and 409,000 nationally watched on SBS as Cadel Evans finally slipped out of Tour de France contention last night.
Tonight: NRL and AFL Footy Shows on Nine from 9.30pm and Ten from 8.30pm. Nine has another gap year from Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year. ABC 1 has Silk. It’s the final. SBS has foodie stuff then the Tour de France. Ten has MasterChef. Seven returns Criminal Minds at 8.3 pm in northern markets and 9pm in AFL markets after the 90 minutes of Better Homes and Gardens. Grey’s Anatomy unfortunately follows.

Metro News & CA: Nine News and A Current Affair won Sydney and Melbourne, Seven News and Today Tonight won the rest. But the big news was that viewers didn’t really care for either Today Tonight or A Current Affair and both had less than a million metro viewers last night. Food call by viewers, both are very pale, tired imitations of former glories. Just 231,000 people watched Today Tonight in regional areas last night, against 556,000 for A Current Affair.

Metro FTA: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 30.2%, from Ten (3) on 26.2%, Nine (3) ended with 19.8%, the ABC (4) was on 15.7% and SBS (2) ended with 8.1%. Seven leads the week with 30.7% from Ten on 23.2% and Nine on 23.0%. Main Channels: Seven won with a share of 22.7% from Ten on 20.5%, Nine with 13.5%, ABC 1 was on 9.9% and SBS ONE ended with 7.3%. Seven leads the week with 23.4% from Ten on 17.8% and Nine with 16.3%.
Metro Digital: 7TWO won with a share of 4.6%, from ABC 2 on 3.9%, GO was on 3.3%, Eleven was on 3.2%, 7mate and Gem ended with 3.0% each, ONE was on 2.3%, ABC 3 was on 1.1%, News 24, 0.9% and SBS TWO ended with 0.8%. GO still leads the week with 4.2%, from 7TWO on 3.9% and 7mate on 3.3%.
Metro including Pay TV: Seven (3 channels) won with a share of 25.1%, from Ten (3) on 21.6%, Nine (3) ended with 16.4%, the ABC (4) was on 13.0% and SBS (2) ended with 6.8%. Pay TV ended the night with a 14.6% share for its 200 plus channels. The 15 FTA channels had a viewing share last night of 85.4%, with the five main channels share on 63.7% and the 10 digital channel’s share, 21.7%.

Regional: Prime/7Qld (3 channels) won with a share of 35.2%, from SC Ten (3) on 22.2%, WIN/NBN (3) was on 21.1%, the ABC (4) ended with 13.9% and SBS (2) was on 7.7%. Prime/7Qld won the main channels with 24.4% from SC Ten on 16.2% and WIN/NBN on 15.1%. 7TWO won the digitals with 6.1%, from 7mate on 4.7% and Eleven on 3.8%. Prime/7Qld lead the week with 33.8% from WIN/NBN on 24.1%.

Major Metro Markets: A clean sweep for Seven, overall and the main channels, and for Ten, which ran second everywhere, in front of a weak Nine. 7TWO won everywhere bar Perth where Eleven got up. Seven leads Ten and Nine in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. In Sydney and Melbourne its Seven from Nine and Ten.
