The Glenn Dyer breakdown: MasterChef Australia All Stars on Ten (1.256 million metro viewers and 1.727 million nationally) and then the final Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year on Nine (1.118 million metro viewers and 1.576 million nationally) stood out, but there was not much else in the rest of their schedules.
The Footy Show on Nine at 9.3 pm in Melbourne had 306,000 of the 759,000 metro viewers (and just over a million nationally) for the two programs, with the NRL Footy Show in Sydney perking up to 203,000. Ten’s footy shows — The Game Plan (NRL) and Before The Game (AFL) — lingered well off the pace at 8.30pm with 511,000.
The Olympic version of Absolutely Fabulous averaged 667,000 (and 948,000 nationally) on ABC 1 at 8pm. Deserved more. Nine’s first Olympics-related program Let the Games Begin at 7pm averaged a weak 486,000 metro viewers and 743,000 nationally. That was a distant 4th on the night. In terms of Olympics-themed programs, Absolutely Fabulous was the gold medallist last night.
Tonight: Ah, the weekend. So AFL tonight on Seven (main channel and digital in various markets), plus Better Homes and Gardens in non-AFL markets. AFL on Pay TV as well. NRL on Nine (main channel and digital in various markets). The Living Room on Ten at 8pm. A repeat of Jamie Oliver’s Great Britain at 7pm. ABC 1 has the final Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell at 8pm and the second part of Silent Witness. SBS has a documentary on the great Jesse Owens at 9.30pm. And, the last sleep before the games start. So if you want to, get up early for the London Olympics opening ceremony from around 5.30am Saturday. And it’s also on Pay TV.
Saturday: The Games on Nine. Seven and Ten have movie repeats. SBS has a fresh RocKwiz at 8.30pm. ABC 1 has the last Death in Paradise at 7.30pm and then a fresh first of three parts of Kidnap and Ransom starts at 8.30pm. Inspector Morse is being repeated at 8.30pm on 7TWO. AFL on Seven and on Pay TV, which also has NRL. Games on Nine and Pay TV.
Sunday: Morning Chats. Games on Nine, as well as NRL in the afternoon (and on Pay TV, which has AFL, Games and NRL). AFL on Seven. Seven also has double episodes of Once Upon A Time from 7.30pm, after Sunday Night at 6.30pm. Ten has MasterChef All Stars at 7.30pm. Ten also has three, yes, three repeats of Modern Family. Talk about doing a Nine and milking a good show to death (as Nine is doing with The Big Bang Theory). Still, it’s the Games and Ten is sort of running dead.
