The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Big Brother and the latest Underbelly, Underbelly: Badness, did the job for Nine last night, although Big Brother is a pale and unwelcome imitation of the rubbish that Ten ended four years ago. But the big story from last night’s ratings was the collapse in audience for the second episode of Ten’s Everybody Dance Now after it fell to just 304,000 metro viewers (and 434,000 nationally, meaning only 130,000 watched in regional areas) from 8pm to 9.30pm. The series will no doubt end up on Eleven on a Friday or Saturday night.
Everybody Dance Now fell from 598,000 metro figure for the debut episode on Sunday night (and around 775,000 nationally). I used to think that Monster House on Nine was one of the biggest TV turkeys of recent years. Everybody Dance Now replaces it. I wonder if Gina Rinehart will insist on a shake up at Ten after this flop?
As a result, the ABC beat Ten for the second night in a row and now has a handy lead for the rest of the week. The ABC was third everywhere overall and ABC 1 was third in the main channels.
The Games closing ceremony averaged 1 million metro and 1.469 million national viewers from 6am to around 9am and a further 864,000 (1.080 million nationally) for the repeat from just after 9.30pm. That was down half a million (for the live broadcast) on the most comparable games, the 2004 effort in Athens.
Tonight: The Amazing Race and Winners & Losers on Seven. BB on Nine then Anger Management debuts, that’s Charlie Sheen’s new US cable comedy. Good luck if you want to watch it, he hasn’t improved. ABC 1 has Foreign Correspondent at 8pm. Ten has yet more Everybody Dance Now, after MasterChef All Stars which looks like very good in comparison. SBS has Insight and Dateline from 8.30pm.

Major Metro Markets: A unique night: not that Nine had a clean sweep, it didn’t as Seven won Perth overall (but Nine won the main channels, as it did in the four other metro markets). No, it was the third place by the ABC overall and ABC 1 in the main channel in everyone of the five metro markets, helped by Ten’s dancing act self-destruction. 7TWO won the digitals everywhere bar Perth where 7mate got up. Nine leads Seven and the ABC everywhere bar Perth where Seven now leads from Nine and the ABC.
