The Glenn Dyer breakdown: That loud squelching sound you heard last night was the ratings for Nine’s Big Brother falling under a million viewers, and heading lower if there’s no improvement on what went to air last night from 7pm. Mindless, unmitigated pap. It was boring. It is just as bad as The Shire and Everybody Dance Now on Ten.
Big Brother had 973,000 metro viewers last night. Viewers in Brisbane, but especially Perth and Adelaide, plus regional markets, are turning off. It’s becoming a Sydney-Melbourne special, as so many reality programs become these days. Big Brother lost its margin over Seven’s Home and Away last night and finished all square in metro markets. In national markets Home and Away had more viewers, 1.451 million to 1.405 million. Big Brother has now lost nearly 650,000 metro viewers and nationally, the loss is over 800,000 since it started on Monday night.
Seven won All People, Nine did well in the demos thanks to Big Brother (it’s a bit expensive for a mere “demo play” for Nine).
Tonight: Back to the mundane life of watching football. So we have AFL on Seven. ABC 1 has Scott and Bailey returning. SBS has repeats of yet another Nazi show, The Last Nazis. The movie, Young Victoria, on Gem at 9.30 pm. There’s an AC/DC special on the Pay TV channel, Studio at 8.30pm.
Saturday: AFL on Seven and Foxtel. NRL on Foxtel. New Tricks repeat on ABC 1 and a Agatha Christie’s Poirot repeat straight after. Inspector Morse in repeat on 7TWO at 8.45pm. A fresh RocKwiz on SBS ONE at 8.30pm The first Bledisloe Cup Test between Australia and NZ is on Foxtel and Nine from around 7.40pm.
Sunday: AFL on Seven and Foxtel, NRL on Nine and Foxtel. Sunday Night on Seven and Kath and Kim is back at 7.30pm. A shortened Everybody Dance Now on Ten. Nine has Big Brother and Howzat, Nine’s view of the way Kerry Packer started World Series Cricket. ABC 1 has Grand Designs Revisited and then a repeat of Miss Marple. SBS ONE has a docu-drama type of historical re-enactment of the burying of Pompeii at 7.30pm called Pompeii: Cellar of Skeletons. SBS 2 has the classic movie, Breathless (1960), at 10.30pm. Record and enjoy. Between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on 7TWO Seven is running a program called Barry Humphries’ Flashbacks. Hmm…
