The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Another good night for Seven, another terrible night for Ten (and a good one for the ABC, at Ten’s expense). And it was another night where Nine got a further reminder that the audience is awake to its tricks and won’t put up with them.
That comment was prompted by the return of the 70’s stalwart Dallas to the screen on Nine at 9pm: just 545,000 people watched in metro market and only 789,000 nationally. It was followed by the first Big Brother: Confidential at 10.10 pm — it was watched by just 382,000 people (492,000 nationally). Pap like that deserves to remain unwatched. Dallas proves, once again, that a classic can’t be remade on TV and succeed like the original. Nine’s The Farmer Wants a Wife slipped to 936,000 in metro markets and 1.4 million nationally.
Seven’s The X Factor averaged 1.478 million metro viewers and more than 2.1 million nationally for another strong night.
Ten’s Puberty Blues shed viewers from last week and fell to 843,000 from 8.30pm in metro markets and 1.144 million nationally. Still respectable, unlike other programs in the schedule. I Will Survive dipped on its second outing to 427,000 metro and 604,000 national viewers. Not promising.
Gruen Plant averaged 906,000 metro and 1.236 million national viewers. It was OK, but the discussion of the Pussy Riot story from Russia verged on the inconsequential with only one panellist, Russel Howcroft, really understanding its importance.
Tonight: The Footy Shows on Nine and Ten. Seven has the split round from 7.30pm to 8.30pm then Mrs Brown’s Boys. Nine has Big Brother as well and another The Farmer Wants a Wife. ABC 1 has another repeat of Midsomer Murders, while 7TWO repeats Lewis at 8.30pm. SBS has its foodie programs from 7.30pm. Poor old Ten has another episode of I Will Survive. Unfortunately, after last night, that might not be the case next week.
The top 10 national programs (Metro and Regional Combined): Nine’s The Farmer Wants A Wife was coded separately for metro and regional ratings and not combined as it was last week. Together it averaged 1.37 million viewers last night which was enough to make it number 9.

Major Metro Markets: A sort of repeat of Tuesday night, except ten was down and the ABC made hay, again. For the second week in a row Ten is heading for 4th with the ABC and ABC 1 in third spot in most markets and nationally. Seven had a clean sweep, nationally and overall. Ten was third in Adelaide only and it was a joint third in Sydney with the ABC. The ABC was also third in Melbourne and Brisbane. In Perth it was a queer result overall, Seven from Ten and Nine. But in the main channels it was Seven from ABC 1 and Nine as Ten dropped to 4th. The digitals were strong here. ABC 1 was third in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. In the digitals it was 7TWO on Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, while 7mate got up on Perth. Seven leads Nine and the ABC in Sydney and Perth where Ten shares third with the ABC. Nine still leads Seven and the ABC in Melbourne. Ten is still a weak third in Brisbane and Adelaide.
